Tips on buying a used EVO
There's nothing wrong with buying a used modded Evo as long as it was put together and tuned properly. If you're buying it already modded, as long as the tune is good and done by a respectale tuner...you're good. A lot of times people will part the car out to get it back to stock and then trade it in...that's where you come into the problems since they try their best to "put it back together" so the dealership will THINK it's always been stock. It's now more than likely out of tune and possibly missing some parts.
On the other hand, buying an Evo that was modded but taken back to stock correctly and re-flashed with the Mitsubishi factory tune should be fine. Hope this helps someone out. As of now I'm trying to sell mine with all the mods on it...otherwise I'll be taking it back to stock and then back to Mitsubishi to be re-flashed back to stock as well before actually trading the car in.

i wouldnt worry about repaints , Lancer's paint is so bad that it chips everywhere
#1 to check if it has never been denied for warranty , that says a lot
Most Evo wont survive after big accident anyway , they r all total loss and salvaged
Note : High_Psi's car is out =p but still ...
Dont buy Tuned by P Dyno Flywheel flying edition =D

You dont know my story and im not ready to tell it yet. Carfax is actually imo now not that accurate....which i will be making a call to as well since the reported my ex car as fine when it really wasnt?. Somebody can have a car fixed under the table or themselves which would never be reported to carfax, trust me I know.....The once over, ha! Funny thing that is. A once over by the dealer selling it is different than a once over done by another place who isnt making any money on the deal....Again I just learned this the hardway.
Yes you work for a dealership and we all know will protect it for all its worth but come on, the used car buisness is shady and thats all there is to it. I lost my respect for a certain dealership and there owner which now falls under the terms of shady to me. Life is funny, learning the hard way is the only way to learn. Im now smarter after my whole situation.

In my original post... I wrote that I would have ROAD RACE ENGINEERING look over the car and probably put it on a lift, with a compression test. My friend who has his EVO in pieces now thinks I am a retard for even thinking of buying a used EVO. He and the rest of you are correct, it is pretty stupid to think the car has not been beaten, but that is not to say there might be a good one out there. If I can't get the used one, it will take me another year to save up for the new one which would be an IX? Anyway, besides clutch and tranny I did not hear anything that sounded like advice if I was going to buy a used one. Stuff like yeah you wanna get the TC inspected cause that can be a problem or allignment. But thanks for the help and all the posts guys.

I just don't think it is cool throwing a comment out like that with out the reasons behind it. Now people only half reading this thread will think we are the ones selling cars missing half the drivetrain. Thats how rumors start.
In my case it wasnt worth the extra 10k. Cause the brand new one will still need the sam maintenence as the used one. Check the drive train and do a commpression test and your good to go. People buy used Supras, GSX's, TT Z's, Mustangs, Vettes everyday the EVO is no different you all are bugging out.

But keep it coming guys, I like the feedback although it is not really technical. So do you think it would be a bad idea to post this in advanced? Will I get banned? I mean who would know more than those guys that have months or years of wrench time on these cars?
At the same time 80% of the people are saying what ~EVILEVO~ are saying, so I am a little more hesitant with my search/quest for EVO ecstacy.

My buddy bought a TT Supra with over 100k on it for a decent price. New head, Single turbo, AEM EMS. 700+ Daily Driven HP. Runs 100%. Now you think that Supra wasnt drive hard before he got it. Comon its an Evo theres so much on the market you could rebuild the whole damn car from a few clicks of the mouse (alot of money yes, but like I said check it over first and if you cant do it your self have somone that knows these cars) Even if I had rebuild my motor, trans, and TC Id still be at less money than a new one right now.
I also had a bad experience with buying a used EV0. lets just say a transmisson rebuild is on the way and I have put less then 4K in the car, Also had an aftermarket clutch which I wasn't aware of till I put the Exedy triple plate in mine. The car had been seriously beaten and returned to stock. My advice dont buy one, but if you must the 4 big things I would worry about are.
1. Clutch and trans.
2. Poorly performed aftermarket work/tunes
3. Unreported body work
4. The compression test
Any problems with any of these could mean major headaches and alot of extra out of pocket money.
