if you want to do more then one pass, you should look into a build tcase, tranny and driveshafts. It's going to get very expensive. Honestly stick with the LS1 for going down a straight line. There is no replacement for displacement

It's interesting because it seems to me that there are more people (on this board) that are more concerned with going in a straight line than anything else.
maybe it's because a 1/4 mile is the same no matter where you go and it's easy to compare numbers.

Now if you would have said a SS, WS-6, or Cobra I would have agreed 1000%, but a GTO has that crappy gear and a little too much weight. I will say this though. Anyone and their grandma can replicate a 10 second GTO timeslip with the above mods and a gear. While 10 second EVO's are very driver dependent.

Fastest Cobra for the cash John V. 10.01@140mph 6.5K in the car and Nitrous Pete 9.99@140mph 8K in the car. Mike Palugi 9.6@143mph 12k in the car. These are all cobra's though.

A car does three things - it accelerates, it decelerates, and it corners. It's a hell of a lot easier to compete using only one of those factors than all three. Once highway pulls enter the picture, whatever skill is required for drag racing is eliminated.

Thats pretty much the min that it would take. Im sure i left something out.
Headstuds? Im guessing to strengthen the block? It looks like it really doesn't take much to make these things run 10's but can the stock block reliably hold that power, you know, wont it affect the longevity of the motor? I remember reading somewhere that the Evo motors cant take over 450 torque I think? How about buying one of those kits that are like 4 grand and come w/a buncha parts??
Ls1 are great cars but I'd like to try something different for a change...Go import for once in my life. Weird because my family is a chevy family.

Very true, I don't konw why though. I can't see drag racing at a tree too fun, but I can't knock it because I haven't done it. Road racing on the other hand that looks like fun.

I don't know why people bought an evo if all they are concerned about is going down the 1/4 mile the fastest.
