I got a crazy idea... check the oil, if it needs it add it.... that being said, do a proper break in and you should be fine. Slthough most car manufactures consider a quart of oil consumption every 3k as normal.

I burned through a quart of oil on the first break in miles (2000) I changed the oil then, and then again at 5000 miles - I used about 1/2 quart between 2000-5000. I have about 8000 on the clock now and have used about 1/2 quart again since 5000.....I consider this normal cunsumption of oil......it does turn black in color really quick after the oil chnage, but I am told that is normal as well....I enjoy redline shifts on a "regular" basis too......I just did my first day of autox instruction at NHIS and I love my car even more now! - highly recommended!

that's cutting it close, if you were at 1.5millimeter I'd be VERY concerned

i really dont think there is such things as guidelines for how much oil you need to add on a fixed ratio standpoint. it is different for any car so i would recommend using common sense and check you're oil level frequently and make sure it is always at the full oil line.

Sorry for coming on so board late. I had been reading some threads about this concern. So I did some investigations. As you all know the owners manual say it will use oil. I called three different Dealer. Every service managers said the same thing, "It could use up to 1 quart every 1000 miles". I called the Mitsubishi headquarter and could only get a customer Rep. And he don't know. So I went to the Dealer and talked with the Mechanics. They were surprise to hear could use up to 1 quart per 1000 miles. But suspect it will use 1 to 2 quarts between 5000 miles. Also they could not tell me; how much is between the lines? My IX had 1125 miles and the dip stick is half way between the lines. I calculated: Between the line is approximately 900ml, less then 1 quart, or 2 cans of sodas. I added 1/2 Quart of oil. I drove and added a total of 1300 miles and rechecked it , now has not moves since I carefully fill it up to the Max line. One final note. Once you've add oil, be sure to turn on the car, then let it settle, then you will get an accurate reading. Because a little oil will settles at the turbo. I am hoping that it will use little or no oil. If it don't use oil then I suspect this year EVO 2 rings only is working. Also the new rings is to match the cylinder walls and afterward will create a tight fit to seal oil passages.

My IX stopped burning oil ever since I started doing oil changes myself instead of taking it to the dealership.

i'm glad i don't have that problem! notice mitsu doesn't state how much? maybe it's more noticeable if you wait 5K miles to change it, since i(and most others)still change it at 3K miles for extra insurance.

1. Break in your car correctly--www.motoman.com
2. Use REAL synthetic oil, not M1 crapola. Amsoil is my favorite, but Motul, etc are also great oils.
