transfer case

I have a evo IX and I just changed all my fluids. When I changed my transfer case the oil was dark. Is that normal or will I have to get work done on my transfer case. I only have 15,000 miles on the car and no modifications.

What kind(and amount) of metal shavings were on the drain bolt for the TC? It's fairly normal to have oil that is dark after that amount of time. The metal bits/shavings on the TC drain bolt tell you everything.

same goes for the transaxle and rear diff.......

if oil is dark that means the gears are wearing out. expect it to start whining very soon.

its normal for the oil to be dark nuthing is wearing out the transfer case carries a certain amount of heat that cause the oil to turn the burnt brown color it has done no harm internally to your tc unless there are large chunks of metal falling out of it.

Dark with a green shade is completely normal. You have nothing to worry about.

Not to worry. Pour some Diaqueen into a clear container, it's dark to start with.
