Evo 9 SE or STI Limited
STI. A better DD and built better. I heard the new ones are making easy power now. Even those 2.5 WRX's are making 300whp/310+torque with a couple of bolt ons and some sort of ecu flash/upgrade.
Why do Evo owners say the STi is a better built car? Is my new Evo going to fall apart in like 3 years or something
Will it last until I pay it off
Another thing to consider is that you get much more throttle oversteer in the STi than the Evo. I would like someone to crack the ACD computer so that we can have more rear bias

F*** that man, I've owned many Subaru's. Subaru ECU's are horse **** and typically don't gain much performance with ECU flashes (including Cobb Tuning Flashes).
Subarus put down about the same WHP as stock after about a day or so of driving with an ECU flash. Exhaust upgrades typically cause lower HP because the ECU freaks out as well. They are just a pain in the *** to upgrade.
My friend bought an STi a week after I bought my car and we both launched hard (broke the wheels loose a little bit) and my Stock Evo IX MR had a full car length and a half on him after about an 1/8 of a mile.
The 2004-2005 WRX's were sexy (major ***** magnets) (I can't say the same for the new models though), the interior (only including the gauge cluster) is better looking and the car sounds better than our cars (uneven headers). But I would still rather have my car, the transmission feels a little better, it still looks sexy and the interior isn't the worst thing to look at. Plus there's the fact that with a few simple mods and about a 2 hour tune we can be making about 300-310WHP... s*** the choice is obvious. You don't buy WRXs and EVO's for pretty interiors, you buy them to pwn people on the streets/tracks and we all know which one does the better job of that.

^^Dude, stop disseminating this crap about Subaru ECUs because it's clear you DON'T know.
Exhaust upgrades cause a loss of HP, perhaps, until you tune it...same with any exhaust upgrade, it needs a tune to take advantage of the increase flow.
Every engine is hard to work on in someway. It took me forever to install the Perrin EBCS because of it's location. On the Subaru it's right there and took no time. Yeah, the spark plugs are easy to change on the Evo but the clutch is pain in the butt...see what I mean.
If you lanunched better than your buddy, that's great, but it certainly doesn't say crap about the car

The Sti limited is a baller car. It has a lot of great luxury features with the power of the STi without the "boy racer" looks.
Plus the 07's are making serious power on protuned stage II. almost 330 whp and 400wtrq on pump.
either way you cant really go wrong.

I gave my opinion based on the fact that I have owned both. At 8k miles my Evo has given me more problems than my scooby did at 42k miles.
I stand fast in my belief that the Subaru is built much better.
If you dont think so, just ask David Buschur. He is raving about his 2006 WRX TR over on NASIOC. Whats that stage 2 WRX making these days... 311hp/396tq at the wheels! Could be more now I havent checked that thread in a while.

i say get the evo because i dont like the way the pedals feel under my feet in the sti, and i dont like the steering wheel being a little bit bigger than the evo's.
On Topic:
Both are obviously good cars or one wouldn't have such a strong following. To me the evo feels lighter and as far as bolt on performance mods its far easier to upgrade your evo's engine compared to the Subie's, seemingly many more choices for performance components. That boxer layout certainly does not help when trying to do what could be EASY things like cams, turbo, anthing besides an intercooler upgrade really...
I certainly wish the Evo's dash had the Defi style gauges but other than that minor quip I don't fault either interiors. These are road pounding destroyers and NOT luxury road cars like a M3 or a Porsche and I certainly don't expect the Evo to ever play those categories.
The STI's drivetrain appears to be a bit stronger than the Evo's and by far is a much torquier animal because of its extra large motor. If your going to keep both cars stock I'd simply take a test drive see which you like to drive the best and go from there.
Evolutiondream,
You say you don't like the regular STIs?, they are good lucking car, it is arguable to admit that an STI is not a sexy car.
Performance differences aside I doubt there is a single Evo driver that would mind having a STI on their garage as a second car if the Evo did not exists.
I have seen a limited edition STI in person, I raced agaisnt one in January at SIR during the AWD shotout. These cars are very sweet and good lokking and they are also fast. STI owners finally broke into the 12's in stock mode and that is a all time achievement.
Go and drive both, I think you can't go wrong with either or, they are both bad a$$. The leather and monnrof is nice to have, the STI comes with beautifull black calipers.
It is up to you, I think the STI limited blends a bit more in traffic without spoiler, consider your options.

I heard a rumor of the new gears allowing 12's. The gear ratios in our 06 STI is probably my biggest complaint about the car. I didnt believe the 12 second claim at first because I was unable to find any tech info to back up the claim. Thanks.. for the info. Wish we had one instead of the o6 STI.. sigh.
