Evo 8 Shifting RPM -> High MPG

Alright, so obviously I don't want the turbo kicking in cause that'll just kill my MPG. I also probably shouldn't shift too earlier, because then it'll bog down in the new gear. So, this is what I've been doing mainly, and if someone has any advice, I'd love it. Infact, if somebody knows the gear ratio or what's it that would be perfect, that's good too.

N to 1st about 1.50k to 3.00k
1st to 2nd Shift at 2.50k
2nd to 3rd Shift at 2.75k
3rd to 4th Shift at 3.00k
4th to 5th Shift at 3.50k

Don't get me wrong, I still have my fun when I can. I'm 17 though. I've got a loan and a $7.00 an hour job. There are just weeks when I can't afford 10MPG. Id rather get 20-25 if I can.

True..people act like just cuz its an evo you have to drive it all fast 24/7...there are times that its good just to take it easy and save gas

whats N to 1st gear? never heard of that one

as for the rest of these "shifts" they are wayyy to low you'll be bogging.
for a nice linear, smooth shift (in my car at least) i feel 3.5K-4K in each gear feels smooth.. you dont really use much turbo if you are just driving normally

i never heard of this shift before. the only time in in neutral is when im either parked, or lazy sitting at a red light

Yeap, what prind said. That's what I try not to go above when I rev out of Neutral from a dead stop, before the clutch fully engages.

Interesting. I'll try that out tomarrow. Out of curiosity, what gear are you in at 45mph? I'm usually in 5th right there, but anything below that and it bogges like mad. Maybe I am shifting too quickly. About what MPG do you get doing that?

I usually shift at 3K rpms and step lightly on the throttle. I try to keep my boost at 0 or slightly higher for good MPG.

Being 17 too, I know how it feels. I usually get 18 mpg when driving normally. Just shift between 3k-4k rpms and you should be fine. Just make sure not to bog in any of the gears as it will put some load on the clutch.

You know, you can shift at 3000 and still get bad gas mileage. Its how you modulate the throttle that counts.

dont want to burst anyones bubble, but gas milage is from throttle position, not RPM. you can get better gas milage at 5,000 rpm if your throttle position is less than 3,000 rpm and and more throttle.

get it? throttle position determines gas milage almost fully.
