This has to be a joke, right? You bought a race car and they don't take kindly to a foot of puss-y! Beware.

I highly doubt you have a boost leak, you are just shifting to early.

Are you pressing the gas all the way to the floor? Just curious....

I have 59,000 miles on my car (which is 3 years old) and I haven't had one problem with the motor. I'd say around 150 drag passes... with alky.. race gas etc... As long as you take care of the car (change oil, drivetrain fluids, plugs, yada yada) it will be fine.

Have you ever pushed the gas pedal all the way to the floor? (when driving down the road)

You need to check your boost pressure readings under full throttle conditions. Due that then report back what your gauge was reading.

We all have cops and speed limits to deal with...... some just have more fun with them.

Uh, you're missing the whole point (and being stubborn). You have no boost leak. The only leak is in your head when you decide to shift at 3500. No one said you have to go to 7000rpm in 3rd and 4th and no one said you had to race in order to USE the car. I drive my Evo daily, too, as do most Evo owners. Did you think we all just bought this $30k car and put it in the garage only to be used when racing? No, the Evo is a master of both worlds. It is tame enough to be driven daily with grociers in the trunk and a baby seat in the back, but it can also be immediately changed into a race car by just removing the groceries. Hell, I race with the baby seat even (no baby, of course).

Again, you have no boost leak. You aren't seeing any boost, because you aren't driving the car. We don't boost before 3500rpm. It's called turbo lag. I don't see any reason for you to have an Evo if you think you're going to damage the motor by actually using it. You must not have believed me when i told you that you are running a risk of damaging your motor and turbo by NOT using it. I'm pretty sure your piston rings did not seal. In fact, I probably boosted more during my break-in (a requirement, btw, up to 5000rpm) than you have during the entire time you've owned the car. Hey, it's your prerogative, but don't complain to us or Mitsu that you have a "boost leak" or are never boost ing in 1st or 2nd when you never actually drive the car in its intended powerband. (4000-6500rpm).

As i already said, there isn't enough load in the lower gears to hit maximum boost, but you still hit full boost in the upper teens somewhere, and it will only happen right at the 4000rpm area. You said you only see 0 psi, which is just not true if you actually drive the car. Even if you don't see 19.5, you're going to see a helluva lot more than _0_.

Find an open stretch of road, and hold the car at 4k RPM's in 2nd gear. I think that's about 35mph IIRC. Then PUT THE F-ING PEDAL TO THE FLOOR SALLY! The turbo should spool instantly and put you into the back of your seat. You should also see well over 15lbs of boost even though it's 2nd gear. Tell us what boost levels you get. If you're not hitting at least 1.0 bar there may be something REALLY wrong.

You have an MR with a tiny boost gauge in bar with small hash marks down well below your eyes and over towards the passenger side. The likelihood of you being able to verify the exact maximum boost in each gear is slim. There is very little difference between 1.3 and 1.4 bar on that gauge, and 1.4 bar is 20.3psi, which is the peak boost on an 05 or 06. I have an 05 MR, and 1.4 bar is right where my boost would peak in 3rd gear. You will not hit quite that much in 1st and 2nd, but you will certain hit over 1 bar easily.

I know you didn't say you don't use the turbo. I am TELLING you that you don't use the turbo. This much is obvious to all of us.

Uh.... I'll hit 1.6 bar on a cool night in 1st. I'm not sure what's wrong with your car...... or your driving.

Also, not revving the motor to 7k is more detremential to the life of the motor than if you did. I hit redline everyday in my Nissan, saw a couple hundred drag passes, a few dozen auto-x's, about 8 hours of road course time.. oh yeah, I turbo'd it (was originally NA) at 70k miles and it now has 160k miles on it. Still runs like a champ.

If you do not rev your motor, you could be getting oil sludge buildup. There was a problem on older Infiniti G20s with automatics because their owners never got past like 3.5k rpms. Got oil buildup in the oiling tubes in the head which eventually blocked them and cause the motors to self destruct from lack of lubrication in the valvetrain.

If you're not, then why are you complaining about it not seeming to make boost or spool up slower in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear?

You're not revving anything if you shift at 3500. Earlier, you said AT MOST, you MAY shift at 4500-5000, but that's apparently only when you're feeling frisky. We make about 80 less whp at 4500rpm than we do at 6500rpm.
