well im actually selling my car as of soon...(450+hp srt4)well im looking for an evo and like ive stated before i have tuned many evos and all so i am actually wondering what year is the best to get and y? One of my friends told me to get an 05 because they have lsd and the transfer case is stronger is that true because i guess he said that cause of the way i drive lol...ive driven fast evos before so...im just looking for input thanks you

 

Given the opportunity I'd get one with mivec and lsd. So I guess that means 06.

Even though atm there are few choices in cams the mivec engine seems to be making alot more power with similiar mods than your a-typical evo 8. I could be wrong on that front though

alright thanks yeai would love to get a 06 evo 9 but seriously their a little too expensive for me i cant afford a 35,xxx car right now and im looking in the direction for a used 05 evo from what ive heard their pretty strong with the lsd and all...i just want owners feedback if they have a 03-06 and 05 owners feedbacks on how the car is and the lsd how it helps....and with a 05 woul;d i have to worry about transfer cases?

The lsd should help you stop shattering the front diff from things like wheel hop but its not invincible by any means. Certainly better than the open diff it used to come with.

You need to talk with the drag racing pro's to see what it takes for a completely stable TC and trans. I'll bet it can be searched pretty easily what it will take to keep your TC and trans in one piece :P

 

thanks i see you in freehold im from nj i used to live in toms river and long beach island (barnegate light) i might actually be up their in the beginning of the year......does any1 with 05 hear of people having issues with the transfer cases???i heard their harder to break in 05 editions because of lsd is that true? im just trying to research first

hehe you seem fairly disappointed..

Just to clarify for you the harder you launch the evo the more likely you are going to experience wheel hop. The rapid loading / unloading in the transfer case usually ends up shredding the spider gears.

The LSD will prevent that by helping to eliminate the shifting of the power and help balance the load on each side of the diff. While this technically isn't making the diff stronger your spreading out the torque across the entire unit instead of concentrating it on one spot them rapidly shifting to another spot.

Also if your going to drag race the car I'd recommend the 5 speed over the 6 speed versions. It seems people break the higher gears 4-6 on the 6 speed because they are weak against aggressive driving.

I would like to also point out that if you race the car enough something is bound to break. It just seems the nature of beast, go fast, break parts...

 

U can get an 06 RS for 28.5K out the door.....maybe even cheaper
