How to remove A/C

I have already searched and I have not found a lot of info on how to actaully remove the A/C.

I know you need an rs belt but other than that do you need to buy anything else?

How do you remove the part inside the cabin, the evaporater?

Any pics or instructions would be great.

Thanks

A/C sucks. Its a waste of energy + weight. Becareful when venting the contents of the A/C system, as it is both illegal and highly poisonous (bad for the environment).

How much weight are you saving? Does the compressor run off a dedicated belt that can easily be removed?

please don’t post if you are going to say its stupid or if you are going to ask questions that have already been answered. The point of this thread is to get specific information on exactly how to remove the A/C and nothing else.

Thanks

No. There is only one main serpentine belt on the Evo, that drives all the accessory devices. When removing the A/C, you need to purchase a RS non A/C belt (its shorter). Just from removing the A/C pulley alone you will gain noticable power (you no longer have spin the weight of the A/C pulley all the time). If you remove the evaporator and associated interior lines, the whole A/C system is probably around 40 lbs total. The A/C delete, along with the lightweight battery makes for a great modification to free up some front end weight (which the Evo could use since 60 percent of the weight distribution is up front).

What do you call the weight of the spinning A/C pulley? If you can live without A/C, this is a great modification. A/C is for pussies.

I think someone on the forums has already done this and saved roughly about ~30-35 lbs. Not a bad idea if you never use the A/C.
