HID vs. Bright white headlight bulbs?

Genuine HIDs could cost you anywhere from $400 per unit...but the bright white bulbs (designed to mimic HIDs) usually run $20 or so per unit...so what are the differences?

HID gives more light, less heat, less power consumption....

HID makes light by stricking an arc, exactly whats happening in welding. The "light" is generated by ionized gas. You need a ballast to initiate the arc.

Filament bulbs generated light by heating a tungsten filament.....amount/quality of light is limited by the melting point of the metal.

Simply the HID bulbs throw more light to the road and at a wider angle. The bright white bulbs only shine oncoming drivers and sometimes throw less light then regular headlight bulbs so they would be just for looks. Also with the bright white bulbs, the cheaper ones tend to burn out very quickly.

Last week i've put a xenon conversion kit in my Evo IX and the difference was huge if you compare it with the halogen bulbs !!

The kit i mounted was 6000k, but today i'm gonna take a look what the results will be if i put in a 8000k bulb. I have enough bulbs over here to try

You can see the picture in my site www.belgianevo.be
