main problem with evos

excuse the noobiness,
i am interested in getting a IX, but hear from dsm guys that they are not reliable. what is the main problem people have? i heard they "jump timing" . just wondering first hand on any common problems people are having. i dont plan on racing, launching, etc or doing anything more than a reflash and bolt ons for now. i guess coming from a honda i am a bit skeptical. any feedback appreciated.

The main problem is people purchasing them with no intent of racing them (just my opinion).

I don't know of any major reliability issues, especially not on the awesome IXs...

The main problem with Evos - is the owners.

Jumping timing is a DSM thing.

Common problems - mainly clutchs due to owners abuse or over powering stockers. Then TC and trans from same issue...

Good call. I read the thread title and "whiney owners who never understood what they were truly buying" was my first thought...

Shift cables in the IX can stretch very easily if shifting hard due to not having shifter stops.

Its funny that the DSM guys would actually say that. DSMs are where you see a lot of issues with reliability. The Evo IXs make great power with minimal mods and if you are not going to launch it for a while your clutch should last you at least 30K miles with 350 to the wheels... I had over 40 launches on mine before I had to get a new clutch at 18K miles with 340awhp...

Like Warr said though, if you are not intending to drive it the way its meant to be driven I would opt for a WRX, Civic Si, or Scion Tc...

PEOPLE STEAL EVOS!

If you don't race, your car will live a long life. Just take some advice from me and put an alarm system as the first thing you do.

I'd sure like to see their evidence for making claims like that. There are no inherent reliability issues. Evos generally take quite a bit of abuse without breakage compared to other sport compacts on the market.

If you really want to know what problems people are having, just hang around the forums here and read the trouble threads for a while. The vast majority of serious issues are a result of repeated extreme use or abuse.

Many of the issues can be traced back to owner's neglect.
I come from German cars, now they had some uncontrollable issues!
A light switch today, a door lock yesterday, a seat heater tomorrow, radio next week.

The Evos are strong, but like anything else, they should be properly equipeed for your driving style.

Maybe you are mistaking a DSM for an EVO?
