no it won't hurt your engine at all. i've had mine off for probably 2 yrs now. all it does is draw a lot of attention to your car. everyone's gonna be staring in it.

it wouldnt over heat w/the shield off, if anything more hot air can escape, and more cool air can replace it.

as for water.. with or w/out it on water is going to get in

isnt the vent designed to move the air? wouldnt it be better as far as cooling goes that it stays on? except for maybe when sitting still.....dont get me wrong, im not saying it will have any adverse affects but it is there for a reason.

Oh man, I love the vent. Only worry is some bird crapping into it and the drama to clean it up

Not sure if this goes hand in hand about removing the hood vent but has anyone removed the exhaust manifold heat shield?

manifolds upper and lower are off. it got really hot in there though. i was afraid that the radiator hose was going to melt. this was with tubular headers that had been ceramic coated. sense then i used exhaust wrap and wrapped the header. now it is so cool in there i can touch the headers immediatly after a 25 minute track session. wrap is without question the best way to keep the heat in.

I've heard people who use it complain that it seems to accelerate corrosion of the pipes - maybe because it retains moisture if it gets damp and doesn't get fully heated up.

That actually happened to me. I forgot about it, and when someone was installing injectors they were like "what is this?"
