Which VIII do I have? [NEWB Question]
GSR is a Japanese market designation. Its not applicable to USDM cars, even though many on these boards try to make it apply. Its a regular Evo 8, which if it makes you feel better is equal to a japanese GSR. (Minus the six speed and the ayc)
Wow, good to know. Can anyone confirm this?
I do have a little bit more knowledge on the matter than I did before, and thank you for all who contributed. When I asked if anyone could confirm was only a simple invitation to see if anyone could enlighten the subject matter even more, thats all.
I will and have used the search function
plain old evo 8.. you can say its a gsr if you'd like
but nothing get better than an MR .. but no need to for the extra $ on bilsteins and 6 spd tranny.. I got an SE.. i should slap a vortex generator on and get a MR badge .. haha but love your evo like it was your child...

One - you can consider yourself as having the GSR cause thats all that was built during your year.
05+ where we got ugly with the MR and the RS ... just a word of advice.. you might wanna swap seats and get the new recaros that come with the MR and IX's.. more durable and comfy
u still own a beast my friend.. time to just level up and you'll be playing with the big boys.. unfortunately im still @ the bottom ;( but im having fun with majority of cars on teh road and so should you.. dont care about which one you have.. cause in the end its whose the better & faster driver .. have fun with your new girlfriend for the next 5 yrs

I own the SE and personally i find it to be better than an MR .. im not really gaining much besides bilsteins a vortex and a 6 spd tranny.. if u buy coilovers whats the point of having bilsteins. A vortex is like $100 and the MR tranny has a ****ty 4th gear.. no real probs with the 5spd.. for the extra like 5 grand on the MR .. in the end its not worth it ..with the SE you still get the red stitched seats and the BBS's ( which are ****ing awesome wheels ) and your HID's and the fogs and the lip in the front... SE all the way.. ( ill get the MR badge just to annoy people and be riCee ) just kidding. my 2cents .. ask any MR owner about 4th gear blowouts... you'll here some stories..
The 6-speeds do have a weaker 4th gear, but stronger 1-3. The transmissions had 4th gear issues only after running on a road course for extended periods; none had problems with street driving, drag racing, etc.
