Looking into getting an Evo

Hey everybody. Obviously I'm new to this board. I came here to get some info on, guess what, Evos. I seriously considering buying one soon and owners opinions. Is it a good commuter car? I live at school through the week and go home for the weekends, about 90miles one way. What kind of gas mileage do you get, I know the stock figures, but what about after you mod? I get about 24mpg right now. Any suggestions on what to get? (probably a lot of posts already dealing with this I know, but hey I gotta ask)

I drive 26 miles to work everyday, I dont get into boost and keep it around 3k RPM's and can drive 250 miles on a full tank of gas w/o having the low fuel light turn on. If you get an Evo stay out of boost(which is hard to...a lot of self control) you will be fine. Just remember the Evo is a sports car, not a economic car.

If you live at school, I wouldn't recommend the Evo. There are a lot of jerks out there who will want to do something to your car. For example, I graduated but worked as a summer RA during the summer after my graduation, and even with the much smaller population in the dorms, I still had a couple of incidents of people spewing soda all over my car and another person urinating across the side of the vehicle. But if you're in some situation where the car will be covered or at least in a safe area, then go for it. It's not a bad daily driver, I've been using it as one since February. Cruise control would've been nice, but it's fine the way it is.

The evo is pretty thirsty but i love her

i drive a fair bit of highway but she will net me only about the 20mpg on good weeks. I haven't seen much less than 18mpg but I'm not one to step on it all the time. I'd probably get way better millage if i slowed down a bit and didn't have a nearly all uphill commute :P At least the downhill makes up for it a little heh..

Obviously its a sports car so expect this:

- Lower MPG
- Higher Power
- More expensive tires you need to replace more
- Higher fuel prices (premium only)
- More fluid changes more often including transmission and differentials
- More attention from your local authority figures

Look if you are looking for spending less on gas then get the prius, if you are looking for panties every weekend then get the Evo. You won't save money on gas if you get this. Who wants to buy an Evo and stay out of boost, its too tempting, I get about 250-300 miles on a tank even with boosting 26 PSI. Get the car if you can afford it(talking about maintaining it aswell) and have fun. Drive safe and leave the civics alone sprite whether they mess wwith you are not, they don't think realistically.

evo is the ****. just save up for a new clutch. before i bought the car i knew the clutch was its weakest link. save about 11-1200 for a clutch and install and have about 4-600 for all season tires and an alignment. other than that you'll be good.

It is impossible to stay out of the boost. I thought that I would be able to use it as DD and get the 25 mpg that Mitsubisi suggests. BUT, the car is just way too much fun.

I know that the Evo eats tires, but what about oil? Not just engine oil, that has to be changed in every car @ every 3K, but the other oils too. I tried looking for it in other articles, but couldn't come up with much. Maybe I was searching fro the wrong thing. Anyone got anything?

You cannot be serious about looking for an sport car and looking for good mpg numbers... But one thing you will have for sure if you buy an evo is lots of fun...

Enjoy...

The best performance economy car around is the VW TDI. Buy one used and get with RocketChip and KermaTDI and you can have a car that runs low 15s but gets 45+mpg while burning used veggie oil if you like. Ask me how I know...

If you want to go out and spank on the big boys however, the EVO is the way to go. Most car for the money that you can get but performance costs... in this case it costs you at the pump.

I'm just trying to get the clearest picture available. Don't want to be blind sided by something.
