got 10k to put down on a GSR or MR...got some ??

Ok...

I went to a Mitsubishi dealership last week (Stevens Creek Mitsubishi in San Jose CA). I told them i had 10k cash and was looking to buy a new MR or a GSR. They ran my credit and everything, and asked me what i was looking to pay as for monthly. I said about 300-400 a month. They never did give me my credit score, but they said it was decent. After running some numbers down, they said with the 10k down...i was looking for about 400-500 a month. I was like whoa. The dealer said i can get the MR for about 34k and a gsr for around 29k. Does that sound reasonable?

When i bought my RSX about 5 years ago...i didn't have that much of a hastle. I told what i wanted..and they worked around it. This dealer looked like he didn't want to budge. Any tips on what i should do to get them to a monthly i want? or am i asking too low of a monthly payment. I really do have the 10k in cash on hand.

Just pay cash. That's what I did...

jk. Go to a credit union and get your money. They will be up front about your payment and rate. Just as reference though, if you borrow around $24,000 at %6.75 your payments will be around $410 for 72/m.

Do not work your payment at the dealership. They will get every dime they can get. I would know. I do it for a living!

Simple math would tell you whether the quoted figure was correct or not.
For MR, 34,000 - 10,000 (down payment) = 24,000.
24,000/48 months = $ 500/month
24,000/60 months = $ 400/month
24,000/72 months = $ 333/month
Obviously you would have to calculate in the interest rate into the payment.
So actual monthly payment would be higher than the figures above.
Not sure if it's reasonable but accurate.

First off, my opinion would be to buy the GSR. Secondly for how long are you making the payments, and whats the APR?

Let's say the dealer offers an evo will cost 34k....and I pay 34k through a credit union then i show them a better payment plan through that credit union. Do you think they'll price match?

i wouldn't mind any of the three..48,60, or 72. 60 months would be ok for me. I guess i didn't haggle enough with the dealer. I pretty much got up and left when they told me the "best" they can do. I guess they didn't take me seriously.

I've searched around about the people in stevens creek. I've heard they are *******s there..so i'll probably check out capitol and san rafeal mitsubishi. Any people hear from those dealerships?? n/m..i'll just search..hehe. BTW...i'mm going to lean towards a GSR because it's much closer to my price range.

You get approved for the amount at the credit union first and they will give you a blank check. You negotiate the price of the car at the dealer, NOT payment. You want the out the door figure. That should be all that matters. Go w/ the GSR and add hid's and defi's.
