Best place to buy used/preowned EVO

OK i just was wondering what would be my best bet on buying a used EVO ... I know that buying a turbo car used is looking for problems but i cant afford a new one at the moment. I was wondering what would be the best way to buy, as in Dealership/Off this Board/or just random private party.

anyone know any good dealerships that sell used EVOS that back them or will steer me in the right direction?

thanks

Dealership...because if theres a problem, you have a chance of having it fixed. Private party is definitely "as-is"

I'd say buy from a friend who you know doesn't beat on their evo. Besides that it's all based on your luck.

Well if you buy off of this site, I think you can get a deal, and you can read the poster's previous threads (on this site and others) and see how he treated the car, how often it was raced, all mods that were put on/removed.

Otherwise I would suggest that if you buy from a dealership, you make sure they know if the car is actually modded or not and get in writing that they will not void any warranty you get because the car is modded, even though you bought it that way.

Do what I did. Search for three months, fly halfway accross the country just to look at cars, and end up buying on in New Jersey when you live in south florida, and then drive it back. Its not worth the hassle. Never buy a modded car, it spells bad idea. Inspect it top to bottom, if even one vaccumm line looks like its not OEM, say no thanks and walk away. I dont care how amazing the deal is, your going to lose it all paying for a new transfer case when you liquidate one, or when you go to get on it after you buy and the "stock" clutch is slipping, and then you go to get a new one and find out that you have a slipping exedy HD twin disk because they needed that grabbing power to hold there 35r. If you cant get a new one, be careful. And good luck.

+1 I actually think one of the better places to buy an evo is from this site.

The best by far is if you have a friend that is trying to get rid of it.

It's stupid to make the generalization that you shouldn't buy a modded one. Just be careful about WHO you buy a modded one from.

If you ask the person about it and they seem to be straight up in what they have done to the car and everything looks like it's done right I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If they tell you everything is stock and you can see evidence otherwise then I would walk.

I would not go to the Stealerships. Do consisent monitoring of Private party sales via Autotrader, ebay, newspaper ads, etc. I purchased my '03 w/ 33K miles for $19K. No problems til this day. There are good ones out there, just have to do your due diligence and be consistently on the look out. Good luck hunting!
