newbie needs help with driving.

I been on this forum for almost 2 months now.
I see alot of discussion about boost(something about psi)
I have 9 GSR (no boost gauge)
what is this boost all about?
Do you shift when boost is max?

I checked local shop for gauge install but they said gauge is $85 and install is about $100(1 1/2hr work)
Is it easy to install boost gauges?

Thank you

yes.. all u do is cut a boost line, insert a T fitting and run the tube through your firewall.. then to make it light up u just splice the wire behind you dimmer switch and ground it.. search around theres plenty of great how to's..

Guess those 2 months wasn't enough.
For starters, here you go.

No you do not shift when you're at max boost. Doing so on the stock turbo would mean you're shifting before you even reach peak horsepower.

Not to be rude, but you really shouldn't of bought an Evolution. PSI is pound per square inch. You don't necessarily shift at peak boost. It depends on the driving condition.

Look at Boost as your magical wand, it's there to make your lancer an Evo.. Otherwise, use ur car normally..

Boost is what your turbo builds up much more power than your engine generates regularly. That is why boost only comes when you need that extra kick, use it with care, you will feel it as a power surge as your RPM's go higher and you are applying quite a considerable amount of gas pedal..

I guess you should meet one of the guys on the evo forum nearby your area to teach you much more about your Evo.. You've still a loooooooooong way to go.

Now guys, how cute am I..

Do the install yourself for the Boost gauge

And shifting at 20psi will only jerk and cause shock to your AWD transmission...coming from the Subaru World that is a big no no...

Ride the boost wave out ease on the gas and then change gears...engaging the clutch at max boost will cause the Rpms to surge also

<grin> It's very, very tempting. You should see some of his other posts! But, this guy is being deployed soon, he seems genuinely nice, and not really able to realize the extent of his actions - it's hard to take advantage of that with a conscience.
