yea it is the exaust manifold. my bust i am a newbie. I want a piggy back because i was told that greddy has one that works well with this car. But i am not sure new at this. I am lookeing to push around 320-330 at the wheels. Not sure what i am at right now. Do u have any idea of what my next upgrade should be?
buy a fuel pump and get a tune (mail in flash,e-flash,dyno tune, or road tune).if you want to install some more parts before the tune get a downpipe and a high flow cat or test pipe.

Sorry to high jack your thread.
If I have a laptop and the tactrix cable, where and which software do I need to get so that I can get the image?
I've been searching but it sounds like most of the thread is way to technical for me at this point.
Is there a step by step instruction thread for a newbie? I really want to save my $700 on vender flash and go with this route.
Thanks for your help in advance!

I'll tell ya that I'm not a big fan of those mail order flashes.
The best thing to do is find a reputable tuner in your area
and have the vehicle dyno tuned for a basic pump gas map.
You'll get the best gains from either Ecutek or Dyno Flash software.
I'm on the east coast,so unfortunately I can't really recommend
any great tuners in California. But I'm sure there are several there.

Dont get a piggy back... The stock ECU is very capable when tuned properly.
If you can get a custom tune go that route as it will be custom made for your car. You may have to travel to get it tuned.
If you can't get it done in person then an email flash is your next option. Some tuners will customize their email tunes for your specific car. Check around.
ECUTek is a licensed software tune and can only be done in person. There is a hefty license fee. You can get the same results for less money from the vendors that do flashes. Also if you go the ECU Flash method you will be able to put your stock tune back on at will (if you save it before loading someone elses!)
Dynoflash is not a type of tuning software - Dynoflash is the company name of a Tuner vendor. Al does/did use some special software (cant think of the name).
ECU Flash is open source image editing / flashing software for the Evo. If you use a mail in flash this is what you will use to put it on your car. I'm betting most tuners doing flashes are using this software although it is true that it doesnt have as much granularity when editing maps as some other software that is not free. However, it works fine and gets the job done very well.
People that I know of that provide email flash are. (alphabetical order). There are probably plenty more I just dont know them.

A+ for laymens explanation and newbie patience.
If you do a mail in flash...I would suggest a jestr flash. He truly has had no bad opinions at all (that I have seen). If you want a personal tune, i would suggest (for local purposes), go to Road Race Enginering, and have Scott Gray tune it. I can say, that if RRE backs that guy, he is good. They are located in Norwalk (LA). Honestly though...to obtain 320-330 whp you don't need a piggyback unit. An adequate tuned stock ecu will be sufficient. And remember, being a newbie....ignore the bashing. The only stupid question, is the one that doesn't get asked...
