Why Evo Owners Sell?
I agree with a lot of what has been said.
In my opinion I believe two of the biggest reasons are to buy another EVO and because the EVO was just to expensive of a car for the owner.
I helped to talk a guy into buying an EVO, and I was extremely happy when he showed up one day at my job with a brand new black IX GSR. So we were talking a bit and I found out his payments were around $750 a month and insurance is going to be around $200+ a month. So the guy is paying close to $1,000 a month on a car and honestly he makes decent money, but I'm not sure enough to afford that. Especially since the EVO with out the car and insurance payments can be an expensive car to own. I mean I would not be surprise one bit to see him a year down the road selling his EVO.
People who own EVOs are paying some incredibly high monthly payments and it just seems like so many EVO owners are in such a rush to get the car, that they are making some very poor economical choices.
Also there are a lot of EVO choices, and the EVO changes like every two or three years, that you have many owners upgrading to the newest version of the EVO (this is not really the case for the STI or SRT-4, where the biggest changes are purely cosmetic most of the time). I myself am completely happy with my IX RS, but I must admit I've been thinking about the EVO X a lot more lately. Those seem to be the main reasons.
Granted there are some people who are just not happy owning the EVO, but I consider those people to be people who didn't do their homework on the EVO. All cars have this problem, people buying a certain car for all the wrong reasons.
So here is my break down-
40% Cannot afford the EVO anymore
30% Upgrade to a newer EVO
20% Love their EVO but wanted to move on to something different
10% Did not enjoy their EVO experience
This is just my opinion

I was going to sell mine for a house but.....i love it toooo much. I will just buckle down on my money situation. The EVO is such a fun car to drive, not only that but it turns heads...at least where i live.
Mine's going just as soon as I replace the clutch AGAIN. Clutch isn't slipping or anything, pedal pressure isn't too hard, but during engagement, the whole ****ing car shakes. Therefore, I'm fed up with replacing clutches on this SOB. With the money I've shelled out just on that, I could've had a 300+ whp Evo. But no, I get to spend my money just to get a decent clutch. I want a G35 infinity, automatic. Luxury, sexy lookin, and sounds great. No more of this tuner crap.
Try spending 10-12000 a year doing TT's or racing your car...
If I had not caught the motorsports bug a few years ago, I certainly would have sold my Evo. coming from M3's, Audi's, etc the car is a bit rediculous as a road car for me. If you don't track it regularly, I cannot see having one. you cannot exploit it's capabilities on the street, and it's butt ugly to boot!
That being said, I love mine for what it is used for.

Maintenance costs are not cheap, especially if it is a daily driver with an occasional (yeah, like twice a month) pass down the strip or a jaunt in an Auto X. I am going to run mine until it won't run anymore, then strip it down, and rebuild it from the ground up. Needless to say, I think I am in it for the long haul. 2003 with 47,000 on it so far, multiple drag trips and a few Auto X. Still love this car!
Assassin, If you have a heavy duty clutch, the car will shake when starting. That is the trade off for not having an organic that will glaze over after repeated abuse. Not for everyone, but you can get used to it.
i learned last night that my evo is goin nowhere for a while..... some s!ut rear ended me like a month ago, not to bad but my car was in the body shop for a few weeks and i got her back on tues. well did a little cruisin last night and relized i hadnt smiled like that in a couple of weeks!!!!! then it got all mushy and i told her " baby i'll never leave you dont woory about that stupid rental she means nothing to me, it was jus a fling"
p.s. awsome body shop highly reccomended for anyone in south jersey!!!!!!!!

Most don't know what they're getting themselves into financial with an Evo. Some just simply outgrow the car and want something quiet and plush for a DD. Others upgrade to a 9 and soon to be the X, and well others sacrifice their Evo for a new child or a new home. There are a handful of reasons but 90% of it comes down to a financial reason.

To your question, NO. But it looks bad for your wallet.
I've waited since 92 for an EVO in the USA, I'm keeping my EVO forever. When the Skyline comes out, my EVO will have to learn to share garage spaces and my Titan will have to sleep outside.
