Noise

I noticed today while just out and about when I downshift into any gear, by letting the clutch out slowly, my car makes a slight moaning noise. Its not a piercing noise and it doesn't make the noise when I go into neutral, just another gear. Like i said I said, I haven't noticed this noise until today so I wasn't sure what I should do about it. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Turn up your radio! jk. you didn't say much about your car, mileage, clutch, mods, etc... just given what you say, it sounds normal to me.

The noise you hear is the TOB (throw out bearing) and it's normal... although is is a bit disturbing.

oh its stock, and it has 22000 miles on it. My only concern is that the previous owner didn't take that good of care of the car. Anyways tell me more about the throw out bearing and what I should do about it. Thanks again

Are we talking about the whining-moaning sound when you downshift?

Moan happens its the TOB as stated. Dont worry about it. Replace it when you do the clutch down the road

whats the reasoning behind the noise? Just wear and tear? Is there a time limit on it?

There is nothing else to tell you about it. I really never downshift anyway except into second, going into turns, at low rpm. The higher the rpm and the slower you let the clutch out the louder the moan will be. When your clutch goes out get an aftermarket replacement. Search throw out bearing or downshift noise for more info.

hmm, i have noticed in my car that when i am stoped, and the clutch is out there is a whine...faint, but it is there. when i push in the clutch it goes away. i dont know if this is similar to what you have, but i assumed it was the throw out bearing

^ this is an example of an issue that would NOT be the TOB
