New EVO owner checking in....

Hello everyone. Picked up a new EVO MR yesterday. I come from having previously owned a 2005 E46 M3. I needed to save money for my wife's continuing education (she's getting her MBA at NYU), so I traded in my M3 and a 2004 Suzuki XL-7 for the MR. It also didn't make sense owning two cars in Manhattan. I hope it was a right decision.

Anyway, just curious... Mitsubishi's website doesn't show black being an option color for the MR, yet mine is "tarmac black". I also have red stitching on my Recaro's, and what appears to be a slightly different front diffuser. I did a search, and some say that this is an EVO MR SE. I just wanted to confirm if that was true? Is it rare to see MR's with this particular configuration?

Here are a few pictures taken yesterday. Sorry for the poor quality, as it was my mother-in-law taking the photos...lol.

P.S. If anyone here also owns an M3, I'm still active on m3forum.com... same screen name as here.

Thanks for your time.

Yes it is the EVO MR SE. If you have a recaro with the red stiching, and metallic black BBS wheels ( VERY RARE) front diffuser. I am pretty sure the EVO SE MR comes in most colors, i might be wrong but. Anyways you made a RIGHT choice. you pick a very SICK car !! love it. Btw your pic pink is not working. ^_^ congrats on your purchase. And welcome to the communicating.

Thanks for the reply. Regarding the wheels; I believe I have the standard MR BBS rims, and not the hyperblacks. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

Ahh I see.... I thought they would be slightly darker then they are now.. more like a gunmetal finish is what I had in mind. I went over to one of my M3 buddy's house today, and he has BBS LM's which are quite lighter in color than mine. Thanks for your reply.

did you buy the car new or used? i don't know about New York but how come you already have plates installed? if you bought it used the previous owner might have put the 6speed leather shift knob in place of the aluminum one.but from what i've heard from another member member here; when evo's come here from Japan they come with leather shift knob and just put 6speed aluminum knob before they ship it to the dealers.that's what i've heard. nyway congrats on the purchase and follow the break in videos that you've watched before they hand you the keys.

I'm waiting for my metal shift knob to come in. Apparently, someone at the dealership stole it.

I bought it brand new in New York from Koeppel Mitsubishi in Long Island City. The plates are from my 2005 BMW M3 which I traded in. As for the shift knob, see my reply above. I asked the dealer about that too... apparently, someone stole the aluminum shift knobs from the MR, so I'm waiting for a replacement to come in.

It's different. I notice quite a bit of torque steer with the EVO, and I'm learning to adjust to it. Acceleration takes some getting used too as well. The normally aspirated S54 in the M3 had a very smooth and linear feeling powerband. With the EVO on the other hand, it feels like someone lit a fire under my butt once that tach swings past 3500.

There's a lot of body roll as well. My M3 had Bilstein PSS9's and Turner Motorsport camber plates installed. Steering was precise, and almost zero body roll. With the EVO, that's a different story, even with the MR-Bilstein OEM struts and springs. To me, it's actually quite soft. I'm curious to know what the OE spring rates are....

Interior wise; no contest.. M3 wins hands down. I had full Nappa leather, NAV, automatic climate control, 8 way power driver/passenger seats, etc... The EVO is very spartan in comparison. The EVO front seats however are very supportive, more so than the M3. I just wish it had lumbar adjustments...

Anyway, that's about it for now... I did notice something odd today; perhaps it's just me. It's some sort of erratic engine lope/vibration, or idle issue. Not sure, as this is my first EVO, and I have nothing to reference it with except the M3. Here are details to what I'm referring too... would appreciate it if someone could give me feedback:

Thanks!

P.S. In case anyone's interested... here's my old ride. Man I miss her...
