I find this incredibly hard to believe. Your saying the stock advans wil last over 30k miles?

Mine were chorded at 12k, so 70% left at 15k is a bit much

Is it true for insurance that sports cars such as evos and stis get lower insurance than other 2 door sports cars since 4 doors are considered slow compact sedans? Or is this just a myth.

Clearly, the STi has a powerband that's shifted down versus the 4G63 motor...But it is VERY torquey. Of course, torque is best used in daily-driving and in-gear acceleration, while horsepower/top-end power is most effective in acceleration over long distances and higher speeds due to gear ratio spread. They don't test significantly different stock vs. stock in handling or in acceleration, with the IX MR running about 13.3-13.6 at only 103-105 MPH and the STi sometimes being a tenth or two slower but around the the same trap speed. With just an exhaust setup and reflash, the STi can make well over 300 pound-feet at the wheels on 93 octane and it peaks low...At around 3300 RPM. Sure, it falls on it's face at 5500 RPM, but it can be really nice not to have to rev to 7000 RPM to get through traffic, or to wait for 20 pounds of boost to make full effect.

Ultimately, the 4G63 is a better motor for two reasons: 1) A cast-iron block that won't blow up, and 2) A better cylinder head design that will outrev the EJ25, and typically the EJ20 as well. Also, the EJ motors tend to have blow-by issues with pressure leaking from the crankcase and making a big mess.

Anytime you ask a question like this on a car-specific site, you'll get a bunch of people talking about how great their cars are because they're passionate about them. But, that doesn't make it the best vehicle on earth...Just their favorite! The EVO has a few advantages in this case, as well as the STi. But they are each the same weight, all-wheel drive, Japanese, turbo-charged, 4-cylinder, six-speed (MR), and even the wheel/tire/braking combos are nearly identical. Of course, I don't own either - I just try to keep informed and I look at dynos any chance I get.

Oh...This was a test-post.
Everyone can read motortrend and C&D's review and generally the mags paint these cars as almost identical. Sometimes, and I dont get this.. they tell in the article that one excels over the other one yet they choose the underdog as the pick - go figure. Really the point I was making is that these cars drive extremely different and the Evo is the faster of the two.. Sure in the 1/4 they are close. On a road track they are less close and in the hands of an amateur driver even farther apart. The Evo inspires confidence. Now I mentioned that I own both and I do and they are both great cars. I can drive whichever one I want daily (I pay for both of them) and I choose the Evo. Why? It performs better, is more fun, more forgiving, more comfortable, etc. Rachel prefers the STI, she drives with the AC on all the time, likes the CD changer, etc. Me I just drive, windows down, stereo normally off.. who needs a stereo when you have a turboback.

I have both cars too and the EVO is the faster car. And the EVO will respond to mods alot better than the STI. Look around and if you find both a STI and EVO with the same dollar amount of mods the EVO will put down more power everytime. The only thing I like about the STI is the interior.

No, the Evo has one of the highest insurance cost. At one point it had the highest theft rate also. The Evo is a better performance car and it's very easy to produce more power compared to the STI. If you want more power out of the STI it is going to cost you more than the Evo. The Evo looks better in my opinion. To me the most logical choice will be the Evo.

After owning both cars in question, I would not even think twice about picking the Evo over the STI. STI was a good car, Evo is an AWESOME car. More direct and refined feel all around. Especially after seeing how well the Evo has responded to just TBE and software compared to the STI. I still appreciate the STI and I do not want my opinion of them to cause any ill will.

If you can afford it without the payments being a burden to you, than I go for it.

i was thinking between the two also, but I ended up getting the Evo. It outperforms the sti and theres promo's running right now for the IX. I picked up a gsr se for under 30k new.

From my research sti's seem to be more of a solid built car. Great QC and materials used. Mitsubishi outperforms the subaru, but mitsubishi lacks a lot of small qualities. Mitsu is not known to be as reliable thats why they smack you with a 100k warranty to sell u. If you do some research on this forum you see a lot of people complaining about minor things (cheap paint, messed up trannys, cf wing fade, rattling, steering wheel leather peelling, etc). I didnt find a consistent problem for STIs. I might be wrong tho. But these are only minor errors for such a fun car. Once you drive it, you'll be sold!
