Sigh...

Well, just dropped the MR off at the dealership this morning. They're buffing out some scratches I noticed at delivery, plus fixing a small rear passenger door ding. I'm also having them take a look at a small water leak in the passenger side footwell.. probably that infamous leaky firewall gromet issue.

I'm starting to wonder why I gave up my M3 for this... anyway, rant off. Just wanted to vent.

Sorry to hear about the scratches and leak...I have owned my 9 since XMAS 2006 and have never seen a leak. I read a post about it, but was skeptical. I hope yours proves to be something trivial. Good luck

PS -- I have been thinking about going back to the BMW camp, b/c I like the luxury feel a bit more for the road. Plus a turbo'd M3 can be pretty hot and fast .

do yourself a favor and dont compare the two cars. your m3 had bmw quality behind it, we have a 14k econobox as a starting point. its unfair to your evo . good luck with the repairs

i got a small ding on top of the hood- let me know how much they charge for it-
Softball practice on Saturday, cold as heck outside, foul ball goes over the backstop, through some trees, over another fence, bounces on the concrete then bounces off my hood!! If you hit 100 ***** over the fence to do it again it would never happen- Have to call dent wizard to come fix it and wanted to compare

I think it's a minor issue; hopefully the dealership can locate the leak and patch it up. If not, I'll have to tear the fender liner off and see for myself. Not really a big deal, as the car's been washed twice, and the extent of the water I see coming in amounts to several drops. I just don't want the sound insulation and carpet to get ruined, nor rust develop. What irks me though is I really shouldn't have to deal with these things on a brand new car....

The door ding was something I saw when taking delivery of the car last weekend. The car is brand new, so the dealership is taking it to a body shop to have them pop the ding, plus buff out some scratches (dealer kept it outside on the lot). I am not paying for any of it fortunately.

Just to give you a point of reference though, most PDR guys in the NYC area charge around $75-180 depending on the severity and location of the dent.

I forgot to mention.. there was also rust developing on my steering column shaft inside the car, plus corrosion on the front seat bolts, and some on a firewall kickplate. I've already taken care of those myself, but again... brand new car with approx. 18 miles on the odometer... I shouldn't have to worry about this type of crap.

I suppose Subaru's have better build quality/materials... perhaps I should have spent more time looking at one of those. Oh well. I'm saving cash for my wife's doctorates. When she's done, I'm out of the EVO and back into a BMW.

ROFL!

You should have purchased a Camry. How the heck did you know after only 18 miles that all this trivial stuff was even there? Did you go over the whole car with an **** probe?

True. I know no car is perfect, and I try to be as patient as I can... but honestly, some of the stuff I've seen on my car is disappointing.

Case in point - the water leak issue I mentioned? I don't think it's coming from the rubber gromet by the passenger side fender liner. If it was, that'd be an easy fix. But after doing some reading and searching, the water looks like it's coming from somewhere behind the HVAC unit. THis leads me to believe that there's a seam in the firewall (probably by the wiper arm) that isn't fully sealed.

It's tarmac black.. scratches and dings tend to stand out.

As for the rusty steering shaft.. I found it after looking for the OBDII port. Then I washed the car, and noticed water dripping inside the passenger footwell.

Camry? Don't be a smart ***. Only reason I bought this car was to have a decent beater and save money until my wife finishes her doctorates. Even my cheap Suzuki XL-7 didn't have half the initial issues this car has when new...

I'm going to stick my head under my seat and see if all the bolts are as shiny as they should be...

I'll show you some corrosion. I own a 66 Beetle!
