dont you love internet forums? someone asks an honest question and you get 1. search 2. meaningless blather or 3. speculation.

the weights are 3219 for an RS, 3263 for a regular IX, 3338 for a IX with a sunroof, 3285 for an MR. you can find it at http://www.mitsubishimotors.com/MMNA...en-us#specsTab
and click on the exterior measurements tab.

i would recommend you read this article, as raw numbers without context have little meaning:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...er_comparison/

my opinion: the only reason to get the RS (if we're talking '06 model year) is to save money. saving money is, by all means, a VERY good reason to choose the RS. the money you save over an MR gets you an Ohlins suspension and a vishnu tune which leaves you a short mod signature and a car that will break off about 90% of everyone else's Evo. if you don't really intend to road race, this may not appeal much to you.

don't buy into the hype - the weight and performance differences are negligible (again, '06 model). disable ABS if you must. retrofitting ABS, though i have never had to do it, would probably be cost and effort prohibitive.

full disclosure: i have an MR. i originally intended to buy an RS because the price savings would have allowed me to do as described above. circumstances at the time i purchased my car, though, allowed me to get a good deal on an MR.

i remember a time when i couldnt affort to fix the radio in my car. voluntarily rolling without a radio just seems silly now. silly in a crappy way, like putting costco all seasons on a ferrari. ABS is useful, especially if you expect anyone other than yourself to drive your car. it's also easy to disable. there is also no reason to change the wheels on an MR. the wheels look great and they're light enough AND they'll save you money over having to go with aftermarket wheels that could be spent on tires and brake pads. i don't have personal experience with my 6 spd breaking, but i don't care much for drag racing, so the 5 vs 6spd means little to me. i don't plan on doing anything more than an exhaust and tune.

i personally don't like the GSR's wheels and i had already counted on changing those without delay. HIDs are nice too and come with the MR trim level. not having to get the sunroof just to have HIDs was a plus for me.

so, there are reasons to get an MR, they just may not be convincing reasons for you. for me, they are.

good luck.

edit: i just remembered, the SE option gives you HIDs without the sunroof penalty. so between the SE and the MR, you've got to ask whether a 6 speed, bilsteins, and the notion of exclusivitiy are worth the price difference. the MR probably isnt worth the money, but don't think that becuase mitsu marketing says the RS is the track day special makes it so.

only time i would by MR or SE, if i want to stay in stock or lightly modifed.
if you going further ,yes they are waste of money.
then you need a RS. Basicly thats the only reason why the RS do exists.

In stock form, the RS is sucks, compare to the other ones. The RS is a best base car for tuners or racers. Soon as you start building an EVO then you will realize it what i'm talking about.

As far as i see the RS owners ,they more track oriented and not "poor".
thats is kind of wierd opinion from MR owners....

I have an MR, I prefer the 6speed especially on the Highway. It will also hold it's value better being more rare. I also prefer it's lighter and stronger wheels. Plus you gotta love that Vortex generator, really cool in a Sonic The Hedgehog Fashion!

i dont have alot of time/money for mods so the MR was a perfect choice. I love the stock rims- so i dont need rims. i absolutely love the stock suspension for a daily driver and it handles road irregularites better than the base suspension which equates to better handling on uneven surfaces. so for 34K it was definitely worth it to me. i don't plan on modding for more than 400 to the wheels or road racing, and if i ever do - i'll switch out the 6speed when it breaks. until then i'm going to enjoy my silky smooth suspension, smooth shifting, and the extra gear.

HIDs, Aluminum roof,BBS rims, VG
or if you get the SE you're also missing out on the
break air guides, zero lift kit, 6 speed and bilstein dampers.

clearly it was worth it to me, and alot of other fanbois.

its the first evo for most evo owners. regardless of model, and whichever model they have then they think it is the best model, thats why they bought it. we all like different types of girls but can all agree that chicks are hot and think that the ones we like are the best ones right.

there isn't one better than the other. its just matters on your tastes and needs. gather as much educated info as u can and make your decision. just remember info and opinions are almost always bias depending on what that person likes, dislikes, or has.

(by the way MR owns all.)

MR=Mitsubishi Racing<-- Flagship Car of Evo IX MR. Out the box by far the best. is worth every penny.. Anybody wanna race stock vs stock on a circle course.. suspension counts ppl.. and were a bit more dialed in.. dnt forget that. 500AWHP range vs other evo MR is still the king.. I just dnt see a MR going beyond that because of out Transmission. Maybe the X's tranny proves to be worthy and we find a way to swap.. and then we will play with you guys aswell.. and I dnt see a 5spd taking over a 6spd on the top end.. and with a built head.. I dnt see a reason for me to shift into 5th...

RS is a nice base car to start out with though.. but then again.. i see them chasing HID's, Power windows, locks, wing etc etc.. that is most RS owners.. but if its gonna be a race car.. then its the best money saver..

If its gonna be a street DD beast the might as well be comfortable and get some looks out of it... out the box by getting the GSR..

What's with the hostility between fellow evoM members . No matter what your choice, you won't be disappointed with your decision. I went with the MR & I don't regret a thing.

MR trasnmission is FINE. I believe it is the constant road racing and HEAT that destroys it. I am willing to believe that if a proper transmission cooler was added, it would be perfectly fine. HEAT kills a tranny.

lol Any Evo rocks so lets all cool out.

As for the original poster's question. I suggest that he/she check the forum posts out and look at the price and what he/she wants THEN make up their mind.

lets all cool out

That said, the SE is the car to get in my and only my opinion alone
