I have one on my 03, I heard it may fit better now on the newer models... but mine is indeed pointing towards the passenger side, but the left side is centered more on the driver's side of the bumper cover where it made a little contact.

Has anyone tried using clear helicopter tape? I would think this might be an easy solution.

you can see it here at

What do you think? I should probably get a CF shield? I was thinking of getting helicopter tape that's clear?

I guess it depends what you're looking for.

If you just want to protect the bumper, then a few layers of helicopter tape might suffice although I don't know if it can hold up to the temperatures. The cf shield also would be good, but I can't imagine taking the shield off and having a noticeable difference in color w/an outline of where the cf heat shield existed. imo, going this route will make the rear look awkward.

I've seen a few members with their lower right rear bumper covered in soot and personally I'd rather have something like the SS which looks like it would reduce and deflect carbon buildup. I don't have time to wash my car twice a week.

I'm basically just concerned with any perminant damage. I don't want yellowing of my bumper or any melting. I'm looking into gettong a CF shield.

What causes damage, the actual fumes or the heat from the metal catback, or both?

that helicopter tape link doesnt work

80210, does your exhaust have a band around the cannister? if it does, then adjust the way the band sits...it'll move your exhaust towards the driverside if you turn the band clockwise

Here is a SS heat shield I saw on an Evo at Winged Warrior. I remember seeing this thread and took a few pics for you all.

I was just running a Megan catback on mine and it melted the bumper. I didn't even pay attention to it for the week I was running just the catback. Oops. Once I installed the downpipe and testpipe, it pulled the tip a little closer to center. Now it doesn't rub or melt anymore, but it still gets black.
