need EVERYBODIES help...

Ok, I am SO close to going down, and purchasing a new Evolution (just the RS model). The problem is, a few of friends keep telling me how much slower they are than the STI, something about losing a lot of stock HP to the wheels. They are telling me that even with a flash, etc, the EVOs are just too slow. I guess what I need to know is, what is the stock WHP, and what kinds of small mods does it take to get it to a comfortable 300 WHP, etc. I am just feeling discouraged about my decision to purchase an EVO.... thanks guys.

i love how people never know what they are talking about. typically, stock evos, even 2005 evo viii's make on average about 10 whp more than sti's. and evo with a tune and an exhaust will make a good 30 whp more than an sti with the same. now i am talking about evo VIII's, evo IX's have a good 20-30 whp more than the VIII's on the same mods. i have a VIII and up at 5000 ft of altitude with just the mods in my sig i made the numbers posted on 91 octane, (indiana uses 93 i think). depending on what dyno you use, evo ix's with just an exhaust boost controller and a tune will usually see anywhere from 300 whp to 330 whp. just watch this video it will make you happy, an ix with just exhaust mbc tune and race gas http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...23627805&hl=en when i got my car i got comments like "dude sti's are so much faster stock they have 24 more hp (300-276) and then after i got dyno'd some of my friends with sti's saw my 306 whp and said "wow even with all of your mods you still only made 6 more hp than me" i love ignorant car owners

Your friends have NO idea what the HELL there talking about....If you ever go to an Evo Sti shootout the Evo's eat them up all day. With basic mods, intake exhaust, boost controller, and a flash. your looking at Mid 12's. With these mods and some other BS stuff that totaled another 10whp, I went 12.3 @112 pump gas @ 22psi in my 05' RS.....The 05 RS's go 13.1 from the factory....there's no stock Sti that does that. Go buy it!!! and tell you friends to go get an Sti so you can eat them up on the straits and in the corners. And becides the 4G63 is a proven engine, they respond WAY better to mods and still stay reliable.

BTW: I DO like STi's but the Evo is just a better car, period.

hey, sorry about the confusion. I ordered it from Dorsett Mitsu here in town, and had to wait the 24-48 hours till they got it. Its there, but after all the smack ive been hearing, i am hesitant about sealing the deal.

For the record. Since I own a IX.

1. A IX will beat a STi from a 30-45 mph roll, dig, or whatever.
2. With 1-2k(tops), you will be over 300whp.
3. At the track(race track, not drags) you will notice the difference between Sti's and Evo's. Evo's just have a better AWD system than the STi's, at least at the track.

I really truly like STi's, so I'm not that far from biased. The dash layout is nicer on the Sti's, and the scoop is cool, but aside from that, the Evo wins. The Evo engine is much easier to upgrade- for cheaper, and it handle's completely different.

Although, a Sti with a 35R...priceless.

Also, I have done a lot of homework on these cars. It was basically the car I always wanted, but was always a little too young a broke to buy one, lol. Im 20 and have managed to save about 6 grand to put down on one, so its on. But after everything I read, thats why i was so astounded to hear them say how "over rated" the EVOs are... Well thanks too all you guys that have responded thus far.

so u go by what people say?
lets see.... u already decided between an evo or a subaru right?

but at the same time u dont even know what the hell u are buying

u just want the fastest right? that tells me that u and ur friends are full off u know what.....kids these days

dont close the deal...just walk away and get a civic until u grow up a little,

in the meantime start reading and seaching about the car....or in this case, both cars.
at this time, an evo is just 2F2F for u

let me explain this, two of my buddys have sti's and have way more monney invested then i could ever dream of and i walk them day and night, hot or cold, and even in the rain you have to understand the evo is more of a parts car meaning you can throw basically anything at it and it makes power, the STI the tuner has to be very logical just to clear a decent amount of power and it cost way more. I was in the same perdicament as you as most of these member where and i no all of us are happy with our decissions

For $1500 I had 344awhp... Go ask the subi boys which car is easier to mod and they'll admit it themselves...

Wow.. some where along the lines i asked for an insult.. must have missed that part. AWD, I am not at all more for Subarus... I just wanted to clear up all of this nonsense I constantly hear from other locals, thats all.
My first car was a turbo 1.8 mitsu, Mirage, haha yeah thats right, a mirage. Anyways, took a **** load of time and work just to get the little bastard up to 215 WHP, so I sold and decided to try out a Toyota Scion.
The car that I HAD, and just sold was an 05 tC, which i had a lot of engine work in. Not a lot of exterior mods because its just not what im in to. Took about $3500 to get the scion up to 278WHP (dynoed). However, the wheel hop, etc was just ridiculous. Not to mention that about everybody and their brother is buying a tC in this town. A friend made me an offer to buy it, so I sold it to him.
Now I am finally built of financially to the point where I can soundly afford the car I have always wanted... I guess thats why i was so heated when all I catch is **** for wanting what I beleive are one of the best cars on the market, for 29 grand (the RS).
