Used EVOs
Used EVOs
hey everyone. sorry is this is in the wrong place but...
I know it is common knowledge among Evolution owners that you should never buy a used EVO but I was just wondering y. I know you can never know if it has been pushed too hard even if it has low mileage... can you guys gimme some info and tips about buying used EVOs. is there anything to look for engine wise..
the reason why im asking is because the new X is dropping this summer which means XIs and VIIs will be uber hard to find.
thanks in advance.

dude you are uber funny...
Of course there is always a risk in buying any used car. Buying a used e_o poses a bit of a larger risk as they are high hp and awd and blah blah
One tip I can give you is search "tornado siren" and take the car, in question, out on the highway, to make sure it doesn't sound like the video clip you just saw.
Keep in mind we are dealing with rally c_rs here. They are built to withstand a proper amount of abuse.
There is no real answer to your question. If you find an evo you really like try to find someone in your area who knows evo's (via evom) and have them look it over (obviously tip them).
my 2 c's

Nothing wrong with buying a used Evo, you are going to mod it and beat on it anway right? I would try to buy a car that is "known" rather that a car sitting on a lot. When I bought mine I already knew that the warranty was shot and that the transfer case had been replaced; fine by me. That was one less thing I had to worry about when I started to mod/race it.
At the minimum try and get one with maintenance records, and get a Mitsu dealer to run the VIN and see if any warranty work has been done etc.

I can tell you that there's no problem with buying a used EVO, just use common sense when test driving it. The car has miles so you don't have to worry about beating on it a bit when you take it out.
I just bought my IX MR with 4500 miles on it. I test drove it, it seemed solid, and there were no strange noises in higher speeds.
Check the advans, make sure it still has them, and if it does, check the wear. Also, make sure the car hasn't been modded at all and check to see if there were any warranty claims on the dealership (also make sure that the car isn't red-flagged). I also had them pull a carfax report on it too.
Just cover your bases, and as long as you have a full warranty when you leave the dealership, then you have nothing to worry about (as long as you don't plan on voiding it yourself).
The dealership bent over backwards for me to make the sale, I'm sure you'll be able to find a great deal on an EVO with a few miles on it.
