Removing stock muffler

I searched but didn't find the answer. I posted this in the DRAG section and got no replies.

I've heard that taking off the stock muffler will free up some horsepower. My car is stock performance wise except for wheels and Works drop-in. I plan on going back to the drag track this weekend for some fun. I'm wondering if I should unbolt the muffler to possibly improve my previous times.

-Will it help or hurt performance?
-Do they allow me to do that at the track?
-Do I need to worry about burning anything under the car? letting it sit and idle?
-Is it safe to do being that I'm not tuned to run that way? lean/rich/knock?

I appreciate the feedback. Sorry for the newb question that has problably been asked before.

run it right off the dp, before the cat, that will give you the most hp, with no ill effects, just dont idle for a very long time with you in the car it will make you sick.

His point was that you don't understand turbocharged cars, and you just proved it again.

ok back on topic. Sounds like the concensis is to disconnect at the dp. How will the car run? Is it worth the trouble. Do you see it helping my times at the strip?

You won't see any significant gains. You need to be tuned to get gains which would be minimal at a pretty much stock standpoint. You'll more than likely have decreased performance issues. You need some backpressure or your turbo won't spool as fast which is what gets you up to speed. You'd be better off getting your car tuned with the drop in filter and wait til your pushing a lot more horses before thinking of an open exhaust.

I have heard that its better to leave all your exhaust on if you dont have nothing to REPLACE it with. It will only hurt your evo and you really wont be able to tell the difference.

these are just my 2 cents.
