My first (semi) launch experience
All I can say is WOW! It wasn't even a real launch and I almost creamed my pants
Let me start off by saying that I baby the clutch because well I don't want to be one of the guys who has to replace there's after 5 or 6k miles. I barely bring the rpm's up over 1500 when starting or often just let the clutch out till I get rolling without even giving it gas. Now onto the story part if anyone cares to read it...
I had to pull onto a highway yesterday during rush hour (not an interstate one with lights but where if you are going right the road curves and you are greeted with a yield sign) Anyways I digress, so I pull up to the sign behind a few cars, but there's no acceleration lane and a fair amount of traffic so we're forced to stop. I patiently wait my turn and when my time comes I've got my eye on the traffic. Now due to the traffic I can't do any of this let the clutch out at 1k and slowly give it gas, when my chance comes I gotta hit it. So I'm waiting and on the gas revving it a bit, I wasn't looking at the tach but I'd estimate maybe around 3k-3.5k was were I was fluctuating between. Finally, a little break in the traffic, I slowly let the clutch out just until the car begins to roll forward and then finish off with a quick slip and BAM!! myself and my two buddies are all pushed back in our seats as the car rockets forwards. OMG I've never felt anything like that, If I were to do that in my eclipse I'd be spinning the wheels by 5.5k and definetly not get to feel that kind of acceleration. I had the biggest grin on my face afterwards, it was awesome.
I can only imagine what it's like launching at 5-6k.
Anyways sorry for the useless kinda long thread, but that's why I posted in the newbie section
Edit: now I feel kinda retarded after having Warrtalon explain to me it's better to launch our cars at 5k than where I did. Oh well not one of those things that I'm gonna do too often and it was still fun.

Yeah the 5K rpm LC is cool. Just don't do it too much. I can always stick a good launch on the street but get me to the tree and 1.9/2.0 is all I can do. I think I concentrate too much on the amber lights and not getting my car off the line properly. Need to work on it.

they all have it but the early cars have it set to high that it never triggers. I did quite a bit of experimenting with my 05 to find out the best RPM for it to launch on the street with street tires.

Launch at 3 K and your clutch will be done before the end of the night.
If you have a launch limiter bounce it off there and slowly release the clutch. If not launch at 5-5.5k.
Additional infor is available in the Drag racing forum
P.S Fast Shifting is important too.

Mind elaborating or pointing me to a thread in the Drag forum that explains why. I guess I've just always assumed the higher it was the worse it was for your car
(Obviously depending on how you actually launch it, but I'm speaking all things being equal except the RPM's)
(Obviously depending on how you actually launch it, but I'm speaking all things being equal except the RPM's)This is common knowledge...or at least I thought it was. You can't launch at 3k, because that requires you to slip the living hell out of the clutch just to get going. If you don't slip it, then you will just bog and not go at all, which completely ruins the run. If you do slip, it will get going after you finally get enough grab, enough boost, and en ough rpm to get moving fast, but by then you will have pretty much killed the clutch. You have to launch the Evo no lower than 5k. A higher rpm launch only does more damage if you dump the clutch.
Definetly makes sense now that I think about it, I guess I just wasn't thinking along the same lines, but anyways there it is straight from Warr

speechless?
