The ECU will make corrections but has a limited amount of "learning " adjustment that it can compensate for with out a physical adj being done..so you can be lean and the ecu won't neccesarily be able to compensate for it--

Ok that make more sense. May sound like a stupid question but how do I adjust my AF then, i.e. what will my tuner do to adjust it ?

Thanks again,
MarK.

Oh and do you agree, based on the code and description pulled do you think it's besause I am running too lean and this is why the SES light is on vs a faulty sensor ?

Thanks,
MarK.

You should be able to hook up a OBDII scanner and actually see what your fuel trims are. That should verify if your car is indeed running lean.

Ok and if at that point we establish it is running lean how do I adjust this ? Sorry for all the stupid questions but I am just trying to understand...

Oui, everyone keeps skipping the simplest answer.

If any of your hoses are leaking, IE boost controller hose has a hole worn in it because it wasn't installed right and rubbed the radiator fan (happened to me) your going to run a bit lean and throw a code.

Check the lines coming off the turbo and wastegate for damage, make sure they aren't loose. Also make sure that you don't have an air leak somewhere after the maf.

Most mail-in flashes will run rich, not lean... at least if the guy who did it is smart. Its better to run a bit rich over detonation.

I appreciate the advise. I had a notion that once you pulled the code it gave a somewhat clear answer to the problem but it seems the error could have been caused by a number of problems including, leaks, lean A/F or faulty snsors so with the fact that I am not a mechanic I guess I'll be going back to my tuner and getting the problem solved. I'll let you all know how it works out when I get the chance to get it done.

Thanks for all the responses,
MarK.

If it is the front one, its important unlike the rear one. The rear one only makes sure the cat is working and the front one actually is a narrow band so its there to keep your air fuels in check.

It should be noted that the car in question had a severe front end inpact - the car was totaled bad enough to throw the wheel alignment totally out of wack causing strange tire wear patterns and also the turbo oil return line had a hole in it

The front o2 sensor was never touched during the installation of the turbo back exhuast - intake and mbc

Its ur front 02 sensor.. its stuck in a lean position.. check for possible vacuum leaks.. double check all ur hoses make sure everything is connected properly.. then if ur tuner is nice enough they could let you borrow a used 02 sensor to try out in your own car to see if it could be a problem that ur 02 is bad.. if not.. have them double check the tune for you with logging at idle..

My friend had the same problem out here in socal while he was on the dyno.. we couldnt figure it out and our tuner let us have someone elses used 02 sensor and it worked.. turnes out the old 02 got pretty fouled up.. maybe due to leaded fuel...

anyways.. goodluck with all that.

Al,

I have every bit of faith in yourself, Jimmy and the boys at The Shop. I just made a post to state an issue I was having and listed my mods in case it helped pin point the issue as I had driven the car for over 1000 miles never with an issue with the SES light, it just appeared after the work was done so you can't blame me for thinking it may be associated as from before when it was not doing it to after when it was the only things that changed were the mods so it's only logical to think it may be associated.
Regardless I took the car into my local Mitsu dealer today and they are trying to replace the part under warranty assuming they also think it's faulty so we'll see how it works out. Hopefully they'll cover it and I can be done with this problem.
Al I am going away for a few days but if it works out for you and Jimmy I'd like to bring the car back to get the Dyno tune done at some point soon and get that turbo oil return line replaced as well as tightening all the bolts but I'll give you a heads up. Did you get a chance to order the oil return line yet ?

Thanks again and I love the car, you really turned it into the Evo it was always meant to be as I now own a true rocket ship - LOL - I can't recommend Al and Jimmy at The Shop enough, great guys, great work and all the knowledge you would expect them to have to make you comfortable working on your baby!

Thanks again guys,
MarK.
