Tried to buy a IX today, no luck

I went to a local St. Louis dealership after calling ahead and finding that they had 2 IX's, both new. Then the fun began.

When I got to the dealership the 2 Evo's were sitting outside right in front. The silver SSL had a 'Demo Car - Sale' sticker on it, so that was a little worrisome. The red MR had a Spearco frontmount, so that had me wondering about it too. Turns out the Silver SSL had 4800 miles on it, and it was rusting where the wheel connects to the brake (I don't know what this is called, maybe the hub?). The MR is where it gets interesting:

The person I called said that they had installed some upgrades. I would call them downgrades. HKS catback, not so bad. Spearco front mount, turbo timer, HKS SSQV and HKS intake, . They wanted 42k for the MR, apparently the 'upgrades' were worth an extra 5k or so. Plus this car had 1100 miles on it. And they were selling it as a new car. When the salesman told me how many miles it had, I got up and left.

I just can't believe they would put these types of parts on this car without doing any research. I don't know who they had tune the car, or if they even did, because it was not mentioned. Also, the mileage on the demo car was expected, but not an MR.

I don't know what I'm going to do now, there aren't that many Evo's in St. Louis, especially not a GG SE, which is what I really want.

that sucks.

Funny I randomly run accross this post, I see your user name and remembered it from StreetRacer on the gamefaqs message board. [ I'm SpecLover, i dont post there much ]

Did you check local listings for used evos or other dealerships in the area?

Can find some nice deals on used, good condition evo's.

I have been shopping for an Evo for the last 2 weeks or so and live here in STL. I know that the mitsu dealer off manchester and lindbergh has 2 IX's also (Kirkwood Mitsubishi) They have TB IX w/ 500 miles, and a IX WW MR that seems to have almost no miles on it.

Talk to Ben, the sales manager. He's a stand up guy, and has been trying to track me down a used VIII. He's been nothing but helpful for me, and willing to go the extra mile to get me financing / finding me a car.

Moore mitsu is full of a bunch of ******. I've never had a good experience with them.

You should contact Mitsubishi of Nort America and give them feedback about your experience. Hopefully they take that in consideration and make some changes.

just work out out pricing and have them order you a new one. you never really want to buy a used evo. never know how it was treated before you. clutch could be on the way out, tune could be bad, etc.

good luck

Why dont you go to the dealer section and buy from south Coast in Cali. I bought my GG SE for under $30K Shipping is around $800 I believe (I live about 100 miles away from them). You can get brand new MR from dealers for well nder 35k ..
It's funny I showed my local dealer the web ad for South Coast and they said it was below ealer cost any way they wouldn't match so I drove 100 miles to buy my car. I have heard a low of people on East Coast buy their cars from South Coast mitsubishi. Discaimer I do not work for South Coast
Good luck

Spec Lover, the guy with the DSM, I remember.

Anyways, I think you have to physically go to the dealership out in Cali, at least that's the impression I got.

Also, I have dealt with Ben at Kirkwood Mitsubishi, and he was definitely a good guy, I actually drove the black SSL there, but I wanted one with fewer miles, SE or regular IX, and not black.

You'll have to drive around to get a good deal. Most mitsubishi dealers are thieves.

I didn't physically go to Anaheim, CA for my GG SE w/ 20 miles. $28,855 w/ dealer fee, and shipping is setting me back $800. I don't have my car yet (shipping company picks it up Thurs.), so I'm still a lil' worried they'll send the wrong car or something but it's been a very easy transaction thus far. From what I've been told, unless you have a Bill of Lading saying the car is being shipped, you have to pay CA taxes on it.

No, you don't. Just give them a call and they can work the deal out for you.

It sounds to me like both of those cars were actually used and they were trying to sell them as new.
