Weird noise in higher gears?
but had the oem clutch replaced about 1,500 miles ago, and i had posted a long time ago when it got replaced (by an outside mechanic) that the new oem clutch felt much softer than the one it replaced. it felt like jello. so i'm thinkin it might very well have to do with the wrong fluid being put in. i'm getting it checked out on tues. thanks again for ur input.
the jello feel would probrably be from improper bleeding of the clutch line. did you check the fluid level? like i said, sometimes the mechanics not familiar with evo's lose a small rubber o-ring that goes between the trans and TC and the fluid will slowly leak out. if this is the case, maybe you can hold him liable. even maybe if you had oil analysis done and can prove it's the wrong fluid he used, you may be able to. ask him to show you what fluid he used and see if it's right. but in the meantime, check to see if it's full, especially if you have to drive on it.
if it's making the death whine from no or improper fluid, shep and TRE won't be able to help him. that would mean the ring and pinion is shot(not the diff), and mitsu doesn't sell just the ring and pinion for the TC and there aren't any aftermarket ones either. he will need a whole new transfer case.
it arises most of the time from low/no/wrong oil in the TC. it ruins the ring and pinion and starts to make the whine. only run diaqueen LSD gear oil in the TC and check/change it regularly to help avoid problems.
the other thing that breaks TC's is dumping the clutch launching at high rpms. sometimes you'll blow the diff.
