Launching won't kill the trans and transfer case unless you're dumping the clutch.

OP, most of us consider 5000rpm to be too low, so we raise it. Also, many people think they've mastered the launch only to go to the drag strip and get a 2.0 60' and can't understand why it was so bad...

Hmm, My EVO 9 MR does not have a rev limiter. Am I missing something here? I've clutched in, gased to almost redline once and lanched it like that. (Sorry im a noob to this stuff)

my experience with launching. well i was watching pinks were they had a special competition. were they were racing to see who was the fastest 10 second car and there was a pickup that a lady was driving and she was killing every one cause of here launch. so after the show i went out and i just had a urge to launch i started to bounce of the limiter and i did a quick slip with the clutch and the next thing i know the car was torque steering and the rpms were shooting towards the red line and i shifted and slammed on the breaks. only bad part was that my clutch stank up the whole block including my garage.

I know it's not good but when i went to the track I just clutch dropped from from the launch control, I easily got the all wheel squeel, but my clutch stinks and my fastest 60' is 1.9, what is a best 60' that can be had with basic mods?

I raised mine to 5500 but you may want a little more at the track so it doesn't bog when you dead hook.

5000 is to low, the car doesnt stay in boost when its launched and bogs off the line

i have mine set at 6000, stays in boost the whole time

do you just rev it up and drop your clutch?

Will if you guys dump the clutch it will bug. but if you just launch right it wont bug. Here is how i launch my 9. I just use the stock launch control and keep at that then just slow feel the clucth just when you feel the clutch slowly grab then just moderately let the clutch go can they the fun begins. just dont drop it. when front of the evo lifts up you know you did it right.

if your bogging at 5k you are not doing something right unless you have a larger turbo

Probably hurt the clutch more than the tranny..the part that gives most is the weakest link. Power shifting will destroy your tranny in time.

5000 is not too low. I cut 1.6x's on my stock 5k 2step.

Here is my tech. w/2step. ((This should be done only at the track))

At the lights use shallow stage. This means as soon as you engage the 1st amber, slowly roll into the 2nd amber. As soon as that is lit, stop. ((This gives you a few extra inches to get it moving before the timers come on.))

Clutch in, gas to the floor, bouncing off 2step. Walk the clutch out a little bit just to the point that you feel all the slack coming out of it. Almost to the point of moving the car - hold it right there.

Amber, amber, green --- walk the clutch back fast but not dumping. Hold on for dear life and you are off and running (of course go before you see green - its all in the timing).

When done right it feels like all 4 are spinning and you are going like a bat-outta-hell.

With the exception of about 2 posts I am now ashamed that I share the same car with the rest of you little girls. Go buy a Honda.
