So, I have a question for those out there like me who are in the market for an used Evo. Who else is waiting for the EvolutionX to come out to see what happens to the used market? Some say that the X will be untunable, and the evolutoion IX will be like the TT Supra mkIV and appreciate. Some say it is going upmarket and people like us wont want it driving the value up. I think that is will be awsome and the price of used Evo's will drop. What do you all think?
I think you should go find yourself a good deal on one of the remaining new Evos with 5 miles on the clock. I am not a fan of used Evos as it is tough to find one that has not been hammered. As to what happens with the prices of used ones, I personally think that they will continue to drop at a normal rate and go largly uneffected by the release of the X. In other words, the bottom will not fall out of the IX market but they will certainly not go up in vlaue either. Just my .02.
I am not a believer in buying new cars. Just the fact that they fall about 20% in worth when you drive off the lot makes me chringe. Although buying a car is a bad investment no matter when you buy. I think think you are right Blacksport.
It's almost impossible to predict what the market for used IXs will be once the X has been out. If the X doesn't do well, used IXs will not necessarily be bumped up in price. That's because a used Evo is not like a used Camry. An Evo is just a difficult car to drive with restraint, which is their appeal of course.
Most guys on this board have been very careful buying used. I'd follow their advice.

Hah I even considered buying an IX while waiting for the X to come out, but that's just demented. (I hate waiting). I've heard rumors that it'll be here as soon as 1/2008, but I'm sure it's more like May for the US. Still I'll be putting down a deposit, hopefully it's only in the 40's. I just love all the features, it's such a driving enthusiast's car.

If you're considering a car as an equitable investment, you're sorely in need of a basic finance lesson. Buying a used sports car, especially one whose general appeal is found in the demographic of men from their teens into their mid thirties (give or take), is a tremendous gamble in my opinion. It's your money, but if you think you're being shrewd, you could very well end up with a sad, sad surprise. Having read the threads on these forums for the past 5 1/2 years, I have to say that I'd be hesitant to buy a "pre-owned" Evo more than any other car out there...aside from maybe the SRT-4.
I want an evo so badly right now. I found a brand new SE but it had a buyer. Would it be completely moronic to buy a used IX (less than 20k miles) with the thought if I can afford a X, I could turn around and sell the IX privately for close to what I boght it for and get a X? They obviously hold their value well, and by the time the X's are on order I'll have made at least $2000 in payments, so I'd take a hit when it came time.
I know it'd be better to just wait, but I think my mustang might even depreciate more than what I'd lose (if anything) on that whole process.

i think that anyone who buys an evo and doesn't push it occasionally is wasting their money but that doesn't mean all of them have been rallied around the streets everyday. i bought mine used with 9000 miles. just enough to not pay brand new price and i have never owed more on it than i could get out of it. also never had any problems other than the clutch. still running strong at almost 40k.

I bought mine with 13k on it and have had no real problems. Now one thing I will point out is to run the vin with a dealer ship to find out if any warrenty work has been done. Mine had the syncros replaced and the transfercase. Granted I have had no issues other than the little 5th gear grind when tached up but it is was still good to know.
