Question Some opinions needed: AMS TBE vs Buschur TBE?

Fist off, I'd like to say that I am a proud new owner and happy to join the Evo community! Got my TB IX SE not too long ago. I love the car, no problems and/or regrets yet. Currently have around 3000k miles on it and I am thinking of getting a TBE exhaust soon. O.K. so I have this dilemma: AMS TBE or Bushur TBE? Just to some it up, I like the AMS TBE because I like the way it sounds and the way it looks. I also like the quality of the make. The only thing that is setting me back is the price ($1,099.95 w/cat). On the other hand, the Buschur TBE is cheaper ($825.00 for the Magnaflow and HFC). Personally I think the AMS TBE sounds better than the Buscher TBE. Also, please correct me if I am wrong, but I heard that the AMS TBE is quiter than the Buscher TBE (something that I want). I am leaning more towards the AMS TBE, so I guess the million dollar question would be: Is it worth paying the extra $275.00 for the AMS TBE. I mean, with that $275.00 I can get a fuel pump, MBC, and a drop in filter. Another important factor is fitment. Which of the two fits better (e.x. no rattling, touching, scraping, etc...)? I have read that some had fitment issues with the AMS TBE and needed washers to make some room. Any opinions/comments will be much appreciated.

Also, you forgot to mention that the Buschur TBE, depending on muffler choice, is one of the lightest steel TBE's on the market. It has beautiful quality and good fitment as well.

I had both.

I started with the AMS TBE w/ testpipe then switched to the Buschur TBE w/ test pipe.

Here are a list of the differences that maybe relevant what you are asking.

AMS:
1. Better looking (that's just a opinion)
2. Quieter

Buschur:
1. Lighter
2. Makes more power (although not a dramatic difference)
3. Costs less

Note that I have heard a few fitment problems with both companies exhausts though it is rare.

BTW, I switched because I am eventually planning to go with a BR turbo kit and did not want to get another downpipe, which the AMS turbo kits require.

I can't speak to the AMS but I'm very happy with my Buschur TBE, I have the test pipe and bullet muffler so it's probably louder than you would like. I have a video of it in my sig and other activities on www.racevideoforums.com

Both of those exhausts are great exhausts by top notch companies. I am sure that you will be happy with either one!

With either one you can't go wrong. AMS adds that bling effect, but if you're looking for something light, something that's not so expensive, and care about raw performance like I do: GO WITH THE BUSCHUR TBE!!!

I would got with the BR TBE take the money you save get a boost controller and a fuel pump then go get a custom tune and you'll be so happy but again as everyone has said AMS and Buschur are both great companies that do a lot with and for are EVO's so you cant go wrong with ither of them!

Thanks a lot for the input guys! Since you guys are telling me that they are both top notch, I think getting a Buschur TBE would make more sense since I can take the $250 that I would spend on the AMS TBE and complete my "stage 1" upgrade (at least parts wise). I heard that the Bullet muffler is louder than the Magna flow. Is that correct? Also, I didn't hear both TBE's in real life, only in videos. Which one is louder (during idle, under WOT, and cruising on the highway)?

The bullet is louder but will flow better and weigh less so go with the bullet. It is louder in all regards than the magnaflow.

If you're worried about sounds I'd get the Buschur TBE with the Magna Flow add-on. It'll tone it down a bit, but it still offers a good amount of flow! that's my .02

I'm in the same boat, cant decide. My question is thought, can I use a buscher o2 housing with the AMS exhaust since it looks like it wont bolt up. The flange is different I think but I could be wrong.

When in doubt go with the lighter of the two. Thats how I end up making my wheel choices. The lighter weight is a mod itself.
