Does the IX get better mpg than the VIII?

I've seen the EPA ratings for both cars and they are pretty much dead even. I was curious how it fairs in real world driving situations though. Drove in my friend's IX last night and it is bone stock and my car is a VIII BR stage 1 car. My friend was beating on the car pretty bad and by no means trying to conserve on gas but it seemed like his gas gauge never moved while mine if I was to drive anything like he did last night I'd be down a quarter tank by then. BTW I'm a much more skilled driver and I drive to conserve on gas not race from stop light to stop light like my friend does. So what gives? Does the Mivec really benefit the IX's that much more or what?

Wish I knew that answer.

I got 268 miles and I was a little under a 1/4 of a tank. I usually try to fill it up once I get to 1/4 of a tank, I don't like to run it any lower than that.

Before I got tuned I was getting roughly 215-220 when I was at a 1/4 of a tank. This is a mix of highway and city driving. I do "Drive" the car, so these numbers are with the car seeing a lot of boost.

Mods in sig. A/F's are 11.4-11.5 in boost throughout the power band.

So by tuning the evo you should expect a higher mpg?

I could be tuned for mpg, and the evo runs rich from the factory. But i only think that would be the case if the car was remotely stock....

Before I was tuned, I was still getting better mpg than my friends' 9MR. Even more ironic, hes rarely in the pedal. I blast all the time...

Sucks for him I guess

I thought 6-gear cars were more fuel efficient than 5-gear.

I am like 21 mpg and I also "drive" THE CAR, we did a mountain run yesterday and I was getting good mpg even after the hard driving. Man I luv this car, the run yesterday was a total blast. Power slides are like way kewl.....except when it comes time to buy new tires...

What kind of driving were you doing and were you driving it hard?

I usually get anywhere from 200-250 and that's taking it easy on the gas.

Keep commenting guys trying to get a general concencise.

The 6 speeds are all rated at less MPG than the 5 speeds.

Comparing to some friends with IX's they seem to get the same mileage as me. One doesn't.. but he isn't flashed at all, where I have "some" mods and drive the car only harder at the toll booths (2-3 times a day on the commute back and forth).

I'm not positive but the extra shift may hurt the gas mileage on the 6 spd.

The 9's also have short gear ratios so that may be a reason they seem to be closer mileage wise.

My tune is running a little on the rich side but I don't know how much that could hurt my mileage.

you're right. you spend more time in the mid/high rpm range since you're shifting more, but it does benefit by running lower rpm on the highway. so i'd say the 5-speed has the advantage city, 6-speed on the highway. i only get around 225 with a 1/4 tank left with a tune mixed driving.

The IX does get better mpg then the VIII.

And yes, 6 speed supposedly gets better mpg then a 5 speed.
