Yes, Jeff, it's awful. A harness bar is not a safety item. It's only for holding the harnesses at the proper height so as not to compress your spine when the harnesses pull. However, such a thing should _only_ be used during an autocross and never during daily driving or on a road course. Had I known you got such a thing, I would have told you during our many conversations.

People do this all the time to look cool without realizing the inherent danger.

if u must use a harness might as well buy Autopower race rollbar . Not a full cage but much safer than a harness bar.

think about it, why would be deadly? If you install it properly and using it properly, it's safe or some even better then factory. Most cases you even have to use the factory harness points .BUT to using properly you need to tie yourself to the seat. So that is the reason why you can't drive like that daily. It's uncomfortable and absolutly no practical. It's like , if you want to reach to the glove comportment, look behind etc.
the rollcage is makes the car body structure stronger and more rigid, most cases nothing to do with the harnesses. Hey there is the reason why we have rollcage and harness bar...
to holding the hights comment for the harness bar, well there are those wholes on the seats.
to saying the harness bar is not safety item...
i always learning in this site....

here is some awsome street legal 4 point harnesses without rollbar...
