Idling the stock turbo
I tried doing a search on this, but I was wondering how I long I should let the car idle to let the turbo cool off. The manual says to let it cool down after driving at high speeds. My car is completely stock, and it doesn't say anything about time. Any suggestions?
If you were on the highway and pulled off into a service plaza...then 3 or 4 minutes would be safe. If you get off the highway and drive for a few minutes slow without boosting until you get home then you can just shut her down. I spent $100 on a turbo timer and it idles my car depending on how it was driven. Just take out the key, lock the door and walk away. Best $ I've spent IMHO. Good luck with it.
Why are you letting the turbo "cool off" It will take hours for that to happen. It has a water cooled center section. Shut the car down as normal and call it a day. You will only increase the amount of heat the unit will see if you continue to let the engine run.
