how much for a new roof?

on a 2005 gg mr and cost to put it in. I have a body shop telling me that it will cost 3 grand to fix a big dip in the roof because it is aluminum. Also they are telling me that to do bodywork on the mr is twice as expensive to fix because you cant heat up aluminum and the whole body is aluminum. is this right?

the whole body isn't... but the roof is... I'm not to amazing with body work, actually i know nothing. lol

But i have heard it is a bit more challenging to do an aluminum roof. Double the cost definetly not.....

I would try another shop. If you're unsure where to go post what city you live in or search for your city and a thread of locals will pop up and im sure someone knows a reasonable shop.

Good Luck!

ya i think i will check out another body shop. I am looking into buying a 2005 gg evo VIII mr that has a dip in the roof and it has quite a few knicks, dents and scratches on it all pretty minor but they are there. The rims also have some knicks and the front left has a pretty good knick in it. it has 38000 miles and i am trying to see if he will take 22000 for it plus include a panasonic monitor that cost like 800. does this seem good to people? I looked at the CF roof it looks sick i would get it but i will have to see. If anyone has one for sale let me know please thanks. I live in glendale CA around LA if anyone knows a reasonable shop that would be great.

i'm pretty sure the aluminum roof panel on the MR, RS, and SE is rivetted on, not welded. since it's tough to weld aluminum to steel. the only evo parts that are aluminum are the hood, front fenders, and roof panel(MR, RS, SE).

I would check around Bodyshops(I have never been to an honest one). Get references and please note all defects before you leave it with them and have them sign a form stating condition. I made the mistake of trusting a bodyshop with fixing my fender and headlight. Well the did not put a bunch of fastners back on and used the wrong bolts. But the big thing was the scratched up my hood and the back of both my Recaros( an not a little scratch I am talking trashed) for some reason the stored my bumper inside the rear seat.

I would check other shops. Im spending part of my summer in sf cali working at my cousin's bodyshop. If i remember tomorrow i can estimate how much it would cause to replace the roof. this way you can get a rough estimate of how much it will cost. And aluminum is really hard to fix so depending on the damage, most likely you will have to replace it.....the cf one would be awsome though

The roof is very expensive to replace because if the time and effort the body shop will put into taking off the old one and replacing with the new one. Then prep panel and paint the roof, which is not the most fun panel to paint on a car. The aluminum panels are harder to make look perfect when doing body work on them. Depending where the dents are makes a huge difference( in middle of pannel or on body lines). Working auto body myself i would say look in to the ams cf roof because IMO i think it looks better and you will not need it painted. Also no more worries of dents on roof haha

GO TO A DIFFERENT SHOP. That shop either has no idea what they are talking about, or they are trying to pull one over on you.

Ok well i didnt have time to do the estimate but i had time to look at how much the roof cost.....a steel one is $400-500 and the aluminum one is $800-900 for a body shop to get. im think it could be done for $2000 but im not sure

and ones with sunroofs cost even more....i hope you dont have a sun roof

try paintless dent repair shops to see if they can do it. dentwizards or dentdoctors are major names.
