Running rich from factory??

I just picked up my Evo IX a little over a week ago. It has around 750 miles on it. When i seem to get on it i have black smoke coming out. Im basically taking it easy for the first 1k miles. With this black smoke, is it because im running rich (even tho i have done nothing with the car so far and it is like that from the factory)? or is it just something that will go away with further break in?

won't go away until you get a flash and get it leaned out. Just break it in and get it flashed, custom if you can. Better yet wait till you get a few mods like exhaust, Boost controler, drop in filter,or any other ones you want then get a custom flash from buschur since you are from ohio. Drive it there even if it is 4 hours it will be worth it.

Pig rich!! If you do get a flash however, it's important that your tuner (or you, if you're doing this yourself) pay close attention to your AFR values. You don't want to lean out the car too much. It's always better to have a little bit of a buffer zone, than attempt to eek out as much power as possible and compromise system integrity.

Everyone here is right. I agree. I got a bash flash from AMS and felt a very noticable difference in power. Also got a little better gas mileage believe it or not
