like a couple others said, keep your stock diverter valve and get an intake if you want the whoosh sound. You'll definetly be able to hear your bov.

bro, keep the stock IX valve, you won't regret it...

For the whoosh sound, the best bet is to get a cone filter with MAF adapter (used so no rough idle will occur), followed by a tune. This will gain you around 9whp/wtq and give you a "sucking" sound when the turbo is spooling, followed by a blow-off sound with gas let off or depressing the clutch after a WOT run...

See my sig...

Ok time for Evo 101.

First, do NOT install a vta bov(the one that makes all the noise). VTA = vent to atmosphere, you will cause yourself problems in the long run because it vents metered air and throws off your fuel to air ratio.

Second, you do NOT need an intake. You will not see significant gains from one and you need to get tuned after installing it so you don't run lean and frag something.

Third, worry about performance not bling. Blind includes making psssst noises.

So here is what you SHOULD do. Determine your hp goals, or track time goals, and then work from there.

Even a stock evo benefits quite a bit from a tune. You can gain a good amount of hp this way.

A good 3 inch turbo back exhaust is the first mod you should do.
Followed by a mbc.
A walbro 255 fuel pump is always a good idea, though some don't think the IX really needs it. For $80, its a good investment. Running out of fuel at wot would be ugly.
If you want to get an intake you can, but you MUST get a tune with an intake, this is not optional unless you don't mind large repair bills.
Reguardless of whether you get an intake, if you do these other mods get it TUNED. You'll gain a significant amount of hp and your car will run better.

Btw, be careful "launching" the evo mr. 4th gear is a bit fragile, and if you really screw up you'll gut your transfer case.

Here's some Buschur packages to give you an idea of where to start. You don't have to buy their branded products and can accomplish something similar with other vendor's parts, but Buschur's quality and support is VERY good.

Based on what you are looking for, I'd suggest the regular stage 1 over the warrtalon stage one. Both include getting your ECU flashed, which basically means you overnight your ECU to them, they program it for the new mods, and then Overnight it back.

Buschur isn't the only game in town, but they are one of the best.

The Warrtalon Stage 1 is $1575 and includes:
BR 3" TBE
Forge Manual Boost Controller
Boost Gauge w/ Pod
Forge RS BOV
Walbro Fuel Pump
ECU Flash

The standard BR Stage 1 is $1350 and includes:
BR 3" TBE
BR Air Filter Kit
BR Manual Boost Controller
Boost Gauge w/ Pod
BR EVU Flash

Since your in Philly you have two very good tuners available, Sean Ivey and CBRD (think I got that right). Ivey may be a little closer, he's over in NJ and is the guy I will be going to from now on for tuning.

If you want to save a little money, look into the Megan TBE (turbo back exhaust), Forge MBC, BR (buschurracing) cone air filter, and maybe a stewart werner boost gauge. You can do a mail in flash with several different tuners, Al aka Dynoflash while not my favorite person because of personality conflicts has a good mail-in flash program.

Sean Ivey charges $450 to dyno tune your car which is the best way to go, custom tunes are always better than a mail-in.

Oh, unless you know someone who can get you an inspection sticker you might want to get a highflow cat, PA is a bigger pita than NJ last I checked.

Good stuff s2kguy....... Here are my goals for my car. This car is a everyday daily driver. Has to be good on gas which is perfect as of right now and cant have any problems. So with that said, i do like power and the car is fast as is. But can always use more i just dont want to run into the problems listed above. Im guessing low 13's high 12's with around 345whp sounds like enough for me, if possible. So i guess ill go with the TBE first along with a air filter kit and tune for my first mods. I didnt really want an after market exhaust because i dont want to draw attention, so is there any stock sounding TBE's out there.

The less noise they make, the slower you'll go.

The IX is already capable of doing high 12's stock. At 345whp you're talking low 12's maybe high 11's if you can drive.

With good gas and a good tune with either of those packages you can get anywhere between 300-330 whp. Your average ix is 240whp.

I don't have any problems with noise on my buschur tbe with hfc and magnaflow. The cat is going to rob 15-20whp, but really cuts down on noise and smell.... The two things that will get the local policeman's attention.

Another cheap mod to do at the same time as a tbe is the o2 housing. You can pickup good one for $100 or less, gives about 10-15whp if tuned.

345whp is going to be tough. You'll have to ditch the hfc and go to a test pipe (smelly, noisy imo), maybe a good set of cams, and might even need to run meth or alky.
