Has anyone successfully swapped headlights

Alright, I spent the past hour searching and searching and searching. Found some information, but nothing fantastic and proven.

I have a 2005 GSR with non-hid. Just bought some HID headlights from a 2005 evo. ok, so, has anyone been able to swap these out and if so, could you please give me a brief how to.

I've never done it but theres a tutorial on how to black out your headlights, which obviously requires removal and re-installation...Might help.

Well I've successfully Swapped out my 2006 GSR Headlights for SE Headlights.
- I adapted my own HID kit to the headlights. D2S kit (aftermarket)
- I ran independant wires for the my foglight setup. And added a switch in the
cabin. Tapping the ACC line so they shut off when the car turns off.

-One thing I'm still working on is getting the Automatic Beam adjusters to work. I need to source the harness for them and rewire another switch in hopes of getting this last one to work.

Hopefully, this gives you some insight on what to expect.

They are not direct swaps in view of direct plug in... Remember, i not familiar w/ an 05 evo , so i'm giving you my based info regarding the 06's. As for the headlights, be careful because GSR platforms do not share the same harness as a MR or SE. RS? don't even ask..lol. It may require you to spice some cables here and there, but I honestly don't recommend it. It can cause damage later down the road.

-dave.

now the confusion starts. STarting to wonder if it is worth it to keep the heads or just sell them now. I wanted to go OEM HID but more I read, the more near impossible it is looking

I have been researching this topic for a while now myself, and still have not found anyone who has done a complete OEM swap. It would be real nice to have a complete parts list to go off of. Even if it costs twice that of aftermarket HID kit, personally I would rather fork out the extra dough so I dont have to splice any wires and have a clean look

u would almost think it would be relatively easy to do a swap, but from what I read there are harnesses and what not that need replacing and make it obscene

life is 1000 times easier if you buy just buy a aftermarket hid and ballast kit.
xetronics.

how much you want for those headlights.

I pm'd you back joey.

The Harness is gonna be a very difficult obstacle. 1, they're most likely different. 2, they're expensive and hard to find salvaged. 3, not worth it.

Just use ur new Headlights, put'em in, run an Aftermarket HID kit w/ ballasts. Make sure u get the right bulbs though. They'll be way brighter than the OEM hids' anyways....

and Call it a day!
