Buying 2003 evo
Buying 2003 evo
I am looking to buy an 03' evo with around 50K miles. I am new to the evo community so dont really have an idea of what needs to be replaced or what kind of problems if any start to occur at this mileage. Also, when I test drive the car what should I pay attention to in order to try and recognize a problem? Any advice is greatly appreciated thanks everyone. Hopefully I will be an evo owner soon.
Check for slipping clutch, transfercase death whine, etc. Anything that shows signs of abuse. Also check for warped rotors, break kind of heavily and see if there is any wheel vibration. Last thing to check is tire health. Welcome!
he is asking 16,000 for it. seems he is hard up on money and wasnt able to sell it for the 18 he wanted originally. said it was stored in the winters and def. garaged most of its life. do you think i could find one for under 16K with 50k miles? If i feel warped rotors should i just offer a lower price or refuse to buy all together? I know i def. should with the transfer case whine right? what about if the clutch is slipping? is that a huge cost?

I think the reason the car is cheep is because he said he hit a tree limb which scratched up the front bumper cover. which to me is no big deal since i can get it repainted. so would everyone agree that at 16,000 its a pretty good deal if there isnt anything mechanical wrong with it?

People are asking >$20k for '03 Evos with ~50k miles. IHMO that kind of asking price is high. As has already been mentioned ~$18,000 sounds like a reasonable price. $16k almost sounds too low, but I've seen other Evos go for that price.
I would def. like to buy a new evo, but even with a really low interest rate you are going to be financing twice as much for a new than used. But I agree, if you can afford a new one it is def. the best way to go. I think I will be able to tell by how the evo looks and drives if it has been abused in its life. I will let everyone know how the test drive goes.
