Catback

I want to get a 3 inch catback but i need help. I can't decide on which one to get. Also would a 3 inch catback fit the stock cat or do i need to get a whole tb? and would i need a tune? I know this type of question has been asked before but i cant find the answers i need. Thanks in advance.

Get a full 3" TB with test pipe and a tune to get maximum gain.

Yes, it will fit. How else would anyone use a cat-back if they didn't bolt to the stock cat?

No, you wouldn't need a tune, but a tune costs less than the cat-back and provides over double the power gain. Doing just a cat-back a lot of extra noise and very little power. An MBC, gauge, and tune would cost less and give you WAY more power with no increase in noise. Just FYI...

Yes, you could find the answers if you actually searched and did some reading.

Im sure a catback will help some but a full Turbo back exhaust setup is what really wakes these cars up, especially after you get tuned.

i did do my research and read plenty and dont worry im going to eventually get tuned but i dont wanna spend a ton of money right now so it would be pointless to get tuned before the catback. i just wanted to make sure i could go maybe a couple months with just a catback

Why would it be pointless to get tuned before the catback when we just told you that you don't need to get tuned for a cat-back?

What would be pointless would be adding 10-12whp, adding a lot of noise, and becoming cop bait as opposed to spending less TOTAL money and gaining 50whp with no change in noise, emissions, or appearance. Your choice, though...

wouldnt it be more affective to get tuned after the catback im not trying to prove you wrong im just trying to figure out the best way to do this. i dont race or anything yet and i know you probably wont like this but i do want it to be a little louder, not obnoxious thats why i only wanted the catback and not the full tb thanks for the advice though

No, it wouldn't. The gains from the tune are the same regardless of having a cat-back or not, because the cat-back adds its own power with or without the tune. I thought that was your original question that we answered...

maybe im just not getting the concept of tuning i thought you make mods and then tune to change the factory settings to fit the mods whatever what do you recommend i do im kind of nervous with tuning and playing with boost settings i thought it would just be safer to go with a simple bolt on dont want to sacrifice reliability too much. this is my only car

Ok, I see. The main thing you're missing is that there is a ton of power to be made just from tuning alone with NO mods whatsoever, and that's because the factory tune is very weak and conservative. So, no matter what you do in terms of mods, there is a LOT of power to extract just from tuning. Also, this IMPROVES driveability, reliability, and gas mileage, because it puts the tune where it should be as opposed to the extremely rich tune Mitsu gives it.

The cat-back does not affect air/fuel ratios hardly at all, so you don't have to retune just for the cat-back. It releases backpressure and provides more flow, so you make more power. Whether you tune before or after the cat-back, you will make the same amount of power from the tuning with the only difference being the cat-back power itself.

Adding an MBC will allow you to SAFELY and reliably raise boost to a slightly higher maximum while also reducing the built-in nasty boost taper that is caused by the stock boost control. Lastly, no matter what you do, don't do any mods without a boost gauge...
