Considering Buying an EVO

Hey everyone!! I just did some searching and I couldn't really find exactly what I am looking for so maybe you can help me out. I am considering buying an 03 EVO that has 60k miles on it. I am hesitant because of the miles and reliability of the vehicle. Is there certain mechanical issues I need to be aware of when looking at this car?? I want an EVO for a family car since it really is the only 4 door car I like that doesn't have grocery getter cookie cutter design. I did own an eclipse gsx so I am familiar with the engine. Please any feedback would help.

Thank You!!

You want an evo, but it's only use will be as a "family car". lol
I can see you talking your wife into a 3" TBE in the not so distant future. "But hun, think of how much faster we can get the ice cream home from the grocery store!"

My wife has a modded rx-8, and she does autocross, she wants the car modded so we can get the ice cream home before it melts and the kids home before the whine..

Just so you know the 4g63 in the gsx and the 4g63 in the evo are TOTALLY different.

I have been reading about that on this forum as well. It seems like it does have minor similarities as well. What are some reliability issues with an EVO that has 60k miles that I need to be aware of???

Why? I bought my Evo for exactly that reason. My last car was fast, but there was just not enough room in it, it was effectively a 2 seater. There are a handful of other cars out there I would buy with the same enthusiasm as an Evo, but the Evo always got points for being the angry sports car I can haul my family in.

Now I don't have to take the stupid *** minivan everywhere when we go out, and I'm much happier driving an Evo than I would be in a Maxima or any other 4 door car out there under $100k.

I don't plan on building the motor. Just CAI TBE BC UICP LICP FLASH Clutch and thats about it.

So are there reliability issues then for an EVO with that many miles??

Depends who the owner was and how they treated it, if they did proper maintance you shouldnt have a problem, but depending on how you drive a trany may be due soon enough too, along with common transfer case issues.
