Transmission reliabilty question and misc ?'s
well i do think the evo 9 is a little out of the specs of a car you want. A 350z is better in almost all aspects aside from performance, and it is cheaper too, and to have it just to drive to the city would be wasting its potential, its like getting a car just to have one. Im not saying tha vehicle is bad as i have one and love it, but it is meant to be used "spiritedly" and not really a daily driver. I would save the money and get a nice middle of the road sedan if i wanted that.
LOL I like how people try to typecast each car. I'm sorry but how he wants/will drive any car is his buiness and nobody else's. If I decide to buy a Ferrari (I wish) to run to the grocery store and back then that's my choice.
After seeing this picture:

and this

I'm glad I cancelled the deposit.
I just would hate to think how a passenger would have done in this situation.

I've seen these pictures, too, but How fast the car going when it hit Evo? And what kinda car was it? If a Corolla going 30 MPH did this, then I'd be worried.. But if a big car going 60MPH did it, then other cars would be mesed up, too, wouldn't they? Or is Evo just the weakest car on this planet?
The side impact rating is poor on the Evo because of the lack of side air bags, it really has nothing to do with the structural integrity of the frame. Looking at that accident it appears he was T-boned at a very high rate of speed in which case any car would fold like that . But i hear you man, family comes first. Good luck with whatever you purchase.

I bet if 350z was in same accident, it prolly broke in half.
Accident damage depends on the angle and speed of car.
If you want safety, go for min vans =D
My ulcle just bought Honda odyssey and that car has major air bags everywhere(all standard and comes with air curtain too)
Only bad thing about evo being in accident is that, so expensive to fix everything.

If I remember the post correctly that Evo was T-Boned by someone who ran a red light.
No ammount of side bars, airbags, funbags, race belts, etc. can prevent all accidents. Without seeing how the Evo fares in actual testing using pictures to make your decision is weaksauce. But hey, it is your decision so go with what ya will. I'm sure there's quite a few Scooby-doo STi's out there that look just like the Evo above.

Well I went ahead and forfeited my deposit after reading more stuff about poor safety. I just would feel too unsafe being in the vehicle with my son, I bet it would be a heck of a lot of fun to drive but I better do what is best for my family! Maybe the Evo X will be a safer car and hopefully it will perform similarly with the IX.
Based on these assumptions....I guess I don't understand why you want to sell the 350z? if you have a Honda Accord daily driver/family car why the need to ditch the Z? You obviously put a lot of time and money into your Z that will be lost by selling. Both of your cars are paid off as well. Unless your Accord is worth 14k you will have to come up with cash or a loan to get the EVO MR. In your case I would probably stick with your current set up for a while.
If your accord is a 2 door, I guess the big question is how often you will have your son in your car vs the Murano? If the majority of the time you and your family travel in the Murano that should yield more options as to what car you buy. Performance or Family car. Just about all performance cars are not ideal for carting around kids. Maybe an AMG wagon? At any rate, the EVO will be just fine for carting around Jr in a pinch or if the Murano is in the shop. Oh well, good luck to ya! I hate to see you give up on the EVO based on one T-bone picture, Its been a year and I love mine. I guess you need to figure out if your performance car days are over or not.
