Mitsu says we dont know.. :(
k guys i bought my car in feb. and noticed it has a funny hum to it. first thought it was the tires cause the previous owner lowered it and the inside wall was gone. bought new tires and got an alignment but the hum lives. just took it to mitsu and they cant determine where it is coming from either, they said my drivetrain looks fine. And now i got to take it back in and they are going to put microphones on like the axles and diff and stuff to try to find it cause this hum is so loud and annoying.
Any one here have any clues what else i could look for or any thoughts. Could the lowering springs cause anything like this? im at a loss here.
im probably the only evo guy on these forums who is actually annoyed to drive an evo right now.... Please give me your two sense guys.
i guess i should describe the hum huh, starts at about 45 and at 55 is pretty loud but then it gets quiet and once you hit 75 it starts to get loud again and past 85 the whole cabin is just a loud humming. Its not like a solid hum though. it goes in intervals. like hums for a second then breaks for a second. anyone ever experienced this??? or do i just have bad luck..

Check your Exhaust it may be sitting on something i.e. Driveshaft or oilpan maybe? also try changing the fluid in your transfercase just to be sure that there is Diaqueen and not something else. I had a friend who put redline into the TC instead and it made a humming/Whining noise.
definetly sounds like a drivetrain problem. Could be that the car being lowered caused a misalignment in the driveline somewhere. I had the same problem in a muscle car i owned a few years ago,it turned out to be an improper pinion angle on the driveshaft. I doubt if thats your problem, but you should have everything in the drivetrain checked for proper alignment. Not the front end alignment like a wheel alignment.
Will try to change the fluids and see if it does anything. lol no dont have a diff fuel pump though i wish i did lol. the noise does stay there when not in gear but since its a wierd sounding hum mitsu said it dont sound anything like a tcase whine but they still could be wrong. im thinkin about putting stock springs on but i doubt its going to help. i am takin it to a place that works on transmission and their is some evo guy there im going to have look at it. ill have to give an update cause so far everyone who has heard this dumb sound says its something they haven't heard before. which sucks for me but maybe i cant give insight when this thing is figured out.
