It flows more. If you are going through the trouble, just get a Walboro pump for 80 bucks. Walboro flows more than the Evo 9 stock pump.

It will yield benefits. But you can safely run 23 psi of boost on the stock IX fuel pump with a TBE.

you don't need a Walbro pump on the IX if you just plan on doing basic mods.

IX is a different part number and flows more than the VIII.

Please run a search on AMS fuel pump test.

Here you go man. I had the same questions as you a while ago.

Evo 9 Fuel Pump vs. Walbro 255 Data

AMS Ultimate Fuel Pump Test

Here is some highlighted information from those threads:

so from my observations, if you have a 9 and are only looking to the most basic mods (TBE, intake, MBC), then the stock fuel pump IS sufficient to handle the fuel flow demands.
Information from the AMS thread:

We learned a few interesting things, especially with the EVO VIII & IX pumps. The EVO VIII pump has a pressure relief valve that opens up at around 65-68psi and the flow output drops dramatically after that, eventually going to zero flow around 75-80psi. The IX pump flows a little more than the VIII pump at lower pressures but doesn't dump the flow at higher pressures. That's the reason you can make decent power at higher boost levels with the IX pump.
Hope that helps
