Bugeyes are 2001-2003 I think. The NA engines were 2.5 l and the WRXs were 2.0 l. The WRX had the 2.0 l upto 2005 (just checked) and then it was switched to a detuned version of the 2.5 out of the STI. In Japan the STIs are 2.0 l but here they are 2.5 l.

I have this dilema. This is what I think of both:

06 EVO IX
:

Pros:

may be a bit faster

definately better handling.

Nice seats and steering wheel.

Good exterior looks.

Cheap to mod and make it really fast.

Cons:

Weak tranny and clutch. It really balances the fact Evo parts are cheap, because clutch is expensive.

Ugly interior. The gauges and the weak radio/a/c output is just cheaply/bland looking.

06/07 STi:

Pros:

Great sounding exhaust note.

Great reliability, you can pretty much beat the crap out of it and it will still drive.

Parts are alright as far as price, but at least you dont spend Gs on a new clutch.

Interior is well done/organized. Frameless doors are pretty cool.

has no exterior antenna lol

Its a better daily driver.

the 07 has longer gears, so having to 5th in the 1/4mile is no longer a problem.

some say the STi is more fun to drive for some reason. I have zero experience on this.

Cons:

Even if you put the same mods as the counterparts on a high 11 Evo, the STi might only be able to hit mid 12s.

To some, it is ugly looking overall. (I personally think it looks good.)

Feels less of a race car compared to the Evo.

50lbs heavier ( lol ...must be hood scoop!)
