Could this insurance quote be right?
Sounds right. Once you do purchase the policy it'll go up a little ($50). I was surprised too, but I'm a lot more maturer with an excellent record.
Hi all,
Obviously, I'm new to the forums and am currently in the market for an Evo, most likely an '06 IX GSR. I called up my insurance company the other day to get a quote since I'm doing a little budget pre-planning to see what it would run me, and after having searched through the numerous threads here on insurance rates I was frankly expecting the worst.
So anyway, the agent I spoke with (who, curiously enough, said his name was Jay Z) quoted me $340 / 6 months for full coverage with $500 deductibles on both collision and comprehensive. I'm 28, single, have a zero claim history since I started driving, and haven't had a ticket in 6 or 7 years. This would also be my only (i.e., commuting) vehicle on the policy.
Now, I have a hard time believing that my rate would actually be this low--I was expecting in the $100-$150 / month range. I'm thinking that maybe he just quoted me for a regular Lancer, but I clearly said Evolution on the phone and when he asked if it was "a regular Lancer or the high-performance version," I replied, "no, it's high-performance one--the Evolution." Anyway, I'm still pretty skeptical.
I'm not trying to resurrect a topic that's been beat to death, but is anyone else out there with stats somewhat similar to mine paying anywhere near this, or is the number I heard really too good to be true?

This is a very interesting thread to me especially after reading your post tsi2evo . Im currently 18 and am getting an evo in the near future ..... already figured that my insurance is gonna kill me considering i have three moving violations on my record and one 3 month term license suspension.... o wait its still suspended
... well not that funny... actually it blows
.... wonder how much per month my insurance is gonna be hahahahah i dont even wanna think bout it

Do insurance companies actually do this, that is to say, do they quote you a rate before you get the car and then raise it when you actually take out the policy? I don't see how this could be legal--it sounds like a bait-and-switch. After all, what's the point in getting a quote anyway if it's not going to be accurate?
Update!
Alright, so I just called Progressive and gave them the VIN of a brand new '06 GSR and they came back at me with the exact same rate: $339 for six months!!
This is seriously excellent news and I'm now closer than ever to buying my dream machine. The real downer, though, is I'm from TN and not used to having to pay property tax on vehicles, and it really feels like highway robbery that where I am now in VA they're going to be assessing me something insane like $805 twice a year for tax on a new Evo. I guess all that money I'll be saving on insurance I'll just have to funnel straight into the tax fund.
Ah well, so it goes...

Ah, I guess that makes sense, then. At the same time, though, I would think that when providing the quote over the phone they would be obligated to tell you that that rate was just for the first six months and would increase thereafter. But whatever the case it's certainly good information to have. Thanks!

If you decide to go with them try doing it online and not over the phone. You may save (a one time) $50. When I did it with Progressive I had to click a link that some people probably miss. It was something like "Compare Quotes". If I didn't do it from that link there was no discount.
Btw, my 1st 6 month premium was $239.
My guess is you don't get the discount by getting it over the phone. I've gotten discounts twice now from two different companies, but it was only if I did it online.

Now if I can just find a way to title the thing back in TN and avoid the absurd property tax on it up here I'd be good to go. Anyone here have experience doing that? Since my parents still live down there I was thinking I might be able to title it in one of their names, get TN plates and whatnot, but insure it under my name and drive it back up here in VA. I realize that might be a little shady, but I honestly can't justify having to pay $1600 a year if I want to drive it with VA plates. You guys think doing something like this is feasible?
My first 2 inquiries into insurance came up with about 750.00 every 6 months on my 06 IX MR. Then I called up Farmers and got a rate at 55.00 a month but with 1000.00 deductibles. Big difference, and all the info was the same for every quote from all 3 companies.
